Question Pioneer BDP-05FD Sound Issue

I have been having an odd sound issue with my BDP-05FD. On many BRDs, new and old, it too often starts with no sound and when you check the audio options screen there are none shown. I have been able to correct it by turning it off, unplugging it and restarting. It is HDMI connected to a Pioneer Elite Plazma that has never had a sound issue with any other source. Pioneer support appears clueless and their only suggestion is to send to it. Anyone have any ideas on cause and cure?

By trial and error and reading some other threads I am coming to think it is an HDMI handshake issue since it seems that it only happens when I have the player energized before the display unit. Of course this is a guess on my part.
