Default Cousin is convinced Monster Cable cured his LCD lag...

So my cousin bought some 46' Insignia LCD a few weeks ago from BB. From the day he bought it he has complained of severe lag while using his 360. Not ghosting apparently, but actual lag when it came to control responsiveness.

So he tells me now that he went out and bought one of those extremely expensive Monster HDMI cables. And now he so gloriously states "MONSTER CABLES ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY. LAG IS MOSTLY GONE!"

Ok he says "mostly" so I'll have to see what he means by that exactly. Just how much it cured the problem. Otherwise it might just be buyers remorse tricking his mind into thinking it fixed the problem lol.

He had an HDMI cable from a few years ago that he tried originally. While using that he noticed his lag problem from the start. So then he went out and bought some other generic HDMI cable. And still the same problem.

So what do you guys think? Do you think that this Monster Cable of his fixed his problem? I've always been brought to believe that Monster Cables really are junk and a waste of money when any HDMI cable will do.

Monster cables are not junk. The problem is how they price them. They are way overpriced for what they are. Its very possible that your friend got two bad hdmi cables and the monster one fixed his problem. He just way overpaid when he could have gone to monoprice or bluejeans to get a much cheaper cable.

If I ever spend what Monster asks for a cable to fix a problem with my set it better do more than "mostly" fix it.

If you ask me it's a placebo effect. If he didn't have a defective cable to begin with, or isn't using a 50' cable, a cheapo HDMI is no different than a Monster cable.

Your unlucky friend just so happened to buy two bad cables and thought buying an expensive cable would cure his problem. It did cure his problem but didn't weigh out his options because he was probably impatient and wanted it that second.

Back in Sept. 2007 when I was putting my new living room system together, I purchased two Monster 1000hd HDMI cables. One cost $99(6ft) & the other cost $199(12ft). I still use them, but won't pay that much for HDMI cables again. Thanks Blu-ray.com & Monoprice!

The most I've ever spent on a HDMI cable was about $60 from Gamestop. I still have it and works great. But, like most of us, we've made mistakes like this, and won't do it again.

Can you go over & check it out with your own eyes? Just remember to bring one of your HDMI cables to test.

Lcd's have a lag by nature, as do most other technologies. That is why some tv's have a "game" mode.

Response time on a good Lcd is probably 2ms.

The Insignia is probably 6ms response.

Highly unlikely the cable has any effect on the response time.

just looking at some reviews on bestbuy.com:

Quote:
What's not so great: The response time while gaming is going to have to grow on me.

...The only down fall ( Not Really a down fall ) is the response time while playing video games. I have a PS3 on this TV and the response time to the control is a little off from my previous tv
Quote:
"This is an amazing TV for the price. Xbox 360 looks awesome but must have DCM off for any gaming or there is a crazy amount of response lag.
Quote:
Play video games no problems, one thing I found out with video games, you have to turn off the DCM(found in settings) so games don't lag, that's the only problem.
Quote:
I have the 360 and LOVE IT. Yes the DCM needs to be turned off.
Quote:
Make sure to turn the DCM feature under "advanced video" OFF before playing a video game. Keeping it on creates a lag between your controller and the on-screen movements. Once I figured this out everything was perfect.
Quote:
until we went to play our xbox 360 (call of duty modern warefare 2). The lag between when we pressed any button and the response on screen was completely unbearable...we thought all was lost. There is hope however! The solution to the problem lay under picture, then advanced video, then DCM. Turn the DCM off and problem solved

...I guess he needs to turn DCM off.

Default Monster "Fraud"?

I'm not a Monster hater, per se, but tell your cuz to view what is found at these links:

http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/packing_the_deal/

-Monster reportedly got this video blocked on YouTube but you can still see it on CBC's website (particularly around the 6:48 mark)

http://www.audioholics.com/news/trad...nd-other-goofs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LORlhzESWzs

Tell him not to just "buy into the brand".

I will also state Monster Cable products are just overpriced and overhyped. They're not junk. They're very good quality.

HDMI cables have nothing to do with video lag. What, is an electic signal going to travel faster through Monster Cable copper versus 'other cable' copper? I think not. Sub-par HDMI cables will result in sparklies, drop-outs, snow, etc, but will not cause lag.

And yes, Monster Cables are very good quality, but they are also about 1000% overpriced versus equally good quality cables available for far less.

Well,

Monster clearly needs people like him.

For what it's worth... I love the placebo effect when I can get it. I was just thinking I would go dust off my gear and re-do a few connections because I was hoping to generate a bit of placebo effect.

Awesome video from the CBC... "well they are made with the superior parts" but do the same thing lmao... classic, that guy at future shop was probably regretting doing that interview. He basically said in a round about way "people are dumb, so we take advantage".

I say let your cousin spend his/her money on what he/she wants........ no skin off your tater.........

I was in Target and walked by to see if they had any T.V.s on fire-sale, and heard a guy and his wife/girlfriend/whatever talking, and she said "they're the same thing" and the guy said..... "no the monster cable ones are better" and she kept saying "how" and his only answer was "they just are, we need them"

Doesn't bother me..... I just sit back and enjoy
