I've never seen it, but I've heard good things about it and the director's only other film is Love Actually. I might blind-buy.

I am hoping the far superior and much longer UK version is on the Blu-Ray release. The US version was pretty butchered.

I purchased the UK blu-ray a while back and love it. I didn't see the US version in theatres, but I've heard they cut a number of scenes from the original version.

Was the UK blu-ray region-locked?

+1

The only letdown for me was not enough January Jones screen time.

And yes, the UK disc is region free.

No, it's region free and features the longer cut, plus a bunch of commentaries and extras.

I'm waiting to see if the US release will have both versions. If both versions are present I will choose the US release, otherwise, I'll go with the UK version.

As announced, the US BD will only feature the US theatrical edit and not the longer, previously released UK theatrical edit.

If you purchase the UK BD on Amazon.co.uk, which include the same bonus features and carries the longer edit, total cost after shipping is barely $20. [EDIT: It's also region-free and all the bonus material is in HD.]

Just made my order this morning and it's about to get dispatched.

I HIGHLY recommend you consider the UK version! 12 minutes lost from this wonderful film is unacceptable! I've watched the UK version 3 times already and actually wish it were longer.

I bought the UK version as well. It's worth it to have a longer cut of the film.

I wonder why the US renamed it?

I did, too. Universal's really missed the boat by not releasing the longer cut here in the U.S.

The film tanked in the UK. Critical review was mixed, geared more towards the negative. The film was also tracking horribly in the US.

James Schamus and Richard Curtis trimmed 19 minutes of the film, added alternate footage and re-arranged footage for the US theatrical release. Of course to appeal to the mainstream, they re-titled the film.

I'm going to get reamed, but the US edit is a superior edit; but there were things I specifically liked about the UK edit over the US edit and vice versa.

Universal could've done seamless branching or included the UK cut on a second disc; but obviously, they didn't. What blows my mind is I was thinking Universal was going to release and promote it by making it an "Unrated" release.

That's what I was expecting as well.
