Arrow Fan-made Zelda Film shut down

Nintendo shuts down fan-made Zelda movie
http://www.digitalbattle.com/2010/01...e-zelda-movie/

The Legend of Zelda not only has one of the largest fan bases, but also one of the oldest and most dedicated ones. A Zelda fan movie, a feature length production titled “The Hero of Time”, based on Ocarina of Time, was made over a period of a few years and was finally beginning to be showcased at festivals and online.

However, Nintendo shut down the movie, as it, obviously, infringed on their trademark and brand. If you’ve seen the film, you’d understand why they did, as the movie, quite frankly, sucks. We know it wasn’t a professional deal and all that, but if Zelda is portrayed that badly, it might throw off fans who would otherwise be interested in “the real Zelda movie”. If/when ever it comes out.

And what were they thinking just making a movie without securing the rights first?
__________________________________________________ _______________

So Nintendo shut this down...I don't blame them. They do own the rights but they should take notice. The fans want a film based on one of the most popular video game franchises in the history of gaming. They were sick of waiting so they took matters into their own hands. I'd love to see a Peter Jackson-directed Zelda film!
Thoughts?

Don't let the Star Wars fans in here... they'll howl about how the fans rights should override the rights of the copyright holder!

I remember seeing a fake trailer a while ago that was put together really well. I didn't even notice it was fan-made at first (thus, the joke).

Found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBCzkz3gHb8

The trailer was released over a year ago....whoever put it together put a lot of work into it. I mean...that's no random youtube video lol it looks somewhat legit and the CGI effects look decent too.

I'd imagine they own all the rights to the Zelda franchise. What they need to do is sponsor a movie with the Nintendo name behind it and they will make out extremely well.

I'm not sure, but it might be the fake trailer IGN put together and filmed themselves. That was actually pretty cool.

Ya...that's probably accurate. It had the IGN logo and they are great over there with graphics so someone probably put it together over @ IGN.

I think a Zelda film would do well. Provided they keep Uwe Boll far away from it.

Would also like to see a Metroid movie.

I actually liked that trailer a lot. Especially since it's not studio made. For a fan project it's really impressive.

I do too. It has LOTR's potential as far as great story-telling goes.

Default Zelda+Alfonso Cuaron=Awesome Zelda Flick

I so would love to see a Zelda movie but only if Alfonso Cuaron directs it. I feel he can bring the magic of Hyrule to life in an awesome way. They should use the Ocorina of Time or Twilight Princess story. God I'm getting all tingly just thinking about it.

That's not the trailer/movie the article is talking about. This trailer was a fake trailer made by IGN.com for April Fool's Day of, like, 2007 or 2008.

Here is the trailer of the fan-made "Zelda" movie you're talking about called "The Hero of Time":
