Hi,
I'm planning to purchase a projector for my home theatre soon, but I'm not sure whether I chose the right screen size. I'll be sitting approximately 12 feet away and want to go for a 120" screen. Is it alright or perhaps too large? BTW, I'll be using a Mitsubishi HC3800. Thanks, Paul |

Here is the link to the projector calculator at ProjectorCentral. All you need to do is plug in your Model and specs and it should do all the work for you.

That link also shows the recommended viewing distance. It's not as obvious as some of the other info it gives you, but it is there.

Rule of thumb is that a screen is to large if you have to look left or right during action sequences. You should be able to take the whole screen in with your forward vision. That being said, I have 120" screen in a 15' room and have no problems. I also have a 65" at the foot of my bed. No, I am not blind, I have 20/10 vision. Bigger is always better for audio and video!

I want a 2.35:1 screen, but my room dimensions don't allow it because I have my front towers to worry about and they are as wide as they can go. So, I am limited to a 92" 16:9 screen for my HT. I could sit closer than the 13 feet I sit away now, but I didn't want to sacrifice the room's aesthetics.

You guys just made my night. I've been contemplating that my 120" screen was too big and that I was too close to the screen. I'm setting my seating at 15-17' away. After reading this I'm more confident that my seating arranging will be enough.
