Set the digital audio outputs for Dolby and DTS to bitstream. If using HDMI for lossless, set Secondary Audio to Off. If using optical, then you can leave Secondary Audio turned On. On the AVR: There's likely a setting for for the digital input you are using that has a name like Auto. It's the setting that detects whatever format the player sends and processes it accordingly. Auto will be the default and it's not something you would normally change. So, the AVR should not need any changes to accept bitstream. |

I have set the bdp to bitstream correctly jus can't get the receiver to show that it's proccesing the HD codecs, have a feeling that I have to change something on the receiver jus don't kno where to start. The manual didn't help any for the yamaha rx-v465.
All it shows is regular dts or regular Dolby Last edited by ss10zidane; 01-19-2010 at 04:10 AM. Reason: Forgot to mention something |

There's really nothing you need to do with the receiver. It obviously understands the bitstream coming from the player. When the AVR display shows Dolby Digital and DTS, that means it's getting those codecs from the player. It's not even possible for a receiver to convert a TrueHD track into DD 5.1. The problem here is with the player. But, you may want to reset your receiver and/or player. Others who have been unable to get HD lights on their AVRs, even though all of the settings are right, have found that a reset does the trick. Last edited by BIslander; 01-19-2010 at 12:53 PM. |

are you using a hdmi cable (since your player has other options) & what movie title/source? no insult meant, but can't get 'uncompressed/lossless' audio through an optical cable (standard bdp), just up to dts. turn off all audio options & set them one by one. i did that on my sammy after some issues. i wanted to test them all out, kinda anal. most manuals are awful.

yeah i got the secondary audio off. just that i cant get the receiver to show the hd codecs at all. and ya im aware hdmi is practicly the only way to get hd codecs so i am using that. and yes im using different type of blu ray movies and they do offer hd codecs on them. how would i go about resetting the yamaha receiver rx-v465. its my friends setup not mine that im trying to fix so cant look at it right away but jus not to familiar with yamaha receivers. if anybody is familiar with them on the remote wat button do i press do let the receiver decide the default codec?

Here's a link to the manual:
http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/Docu...465_manual.pdf p45 explains how to reset the AVR to the factory defaults. p23 explains how to view the format of the audio aerriving on a given input. |

thanks for the link bislander, helpful on the reset to default but im not sure what button to press to let the receiver decide automatically which codec is better to use. like for example my sony receiver i leave it at afd auto so i can let the receiver decide what to use for the appropeate source.

p27 of the manual. Straight Decoding Mode turns off all sound fields. However, even if you have sound fields engaged, most are ignored when the source is multichannel. See the note on p24. It's really pretty hard to prevent the AVR from doing the decoding.
If your display says DD 5.1 or DTS, that's because the player is sending those codecs and the AVR is not to blame. In the HDMI handshake, the receiver tells the player that it has lossless decoders and the player will send them unless you do something in the player set-up leading to a lossy substitution. |

Those other settings don't matter when bitstreaming for receiver decoding. There are only two settings that matter: secondary audio needs to be set to off and the two digital audio outputs need to be set to bitstream.

Hope no one minds this newbie kinda jumping in on this thread since I'm having a similar problem and cannot start a new thread yet.
I've apparently lost the Dolby Digital decoding (when playing Blu-Ray Disc not DVDs) on my Denon AVR-2802 connected with Toslink to the BD-P1500 Samsung BDP when I did the firmware upgrade. This all began when I had a new copy of Quantum of Solace begin skipping and locking up on chapter 24 & 25. The disc appeared clean and unscathed but even after restarting and turning the unit off, continued to skip or lock. All my collection of Blu-Ray Disc played to my Denon receiver in Dolby Digital mode before the upgrade (except for Casino Royale - DTS mode). Now all my Blu-Ray disc play in PL II mode only with the quality of sound taking a hit. Can someone shed some light on what I might do to fix this problem? I've tried changing some of the audio setup (PCM, bitstream, etc.) in the player to no avail. I feed all the video sources to the Samsung LCD with HDMI and all the audio sources with Toslink or Coaxial audio cable to the Denon AVR-2802 which is set to auto input. Any DVD I play in the 1500 shows as Dolby Digital in the Denon and really sound more dynamic than any of the Blu-Rays. |
