Hi
This thread is to see which Sony/Columbia titles people would buy on BD, that haven't been released yet. As it's classics let's say 1979 as a cut off date. Here is a list of potential titles: http://www.imdb.com/company/co0071509/ If you could put your top 3 titles down, then when we have enough replies they will be collated and voted for in a poll. The poll results will then be presented to someone influential at Sony and may influence release dates. Please note anyone posting more than 3 titles, or titles produced after 1980, they will be ignored from the final list I'll start with: 1) Jason & Argonauts 2) Monty Python & Holy Grail 3) Man for all Seasons Last edited by mark antony; 01-20-2010 at 03:35 PM. I think the purpose of this thread is to make such a list.I don't know if a list of which Columbia/Sony pictures are "classics" exists, and a complete list of all Columbia and Sony releases would be too long.

More like pre-1990 for the Mariachi trilogy (1992, 1995, 2003). The Deep is already out on Blu-ray. I want the remaining Ray Harryhausen library myself. |

I think we need to think about which movies, to start with anyway, would be most beneficial on Blu-ray and sell for the company. For example, does the movie have true stereo tracks which would benefit from the lossless audio and other issues like that. Has the movie retained its popularity today, ect.
Off the top of my head, I'll add these: Lawrence of Arabia (Best Picture winner) Oliver! (Best Picture winner) Funny Girl (Best Actress winner) Bridge on the River Kwai (Best Picture and Actor winner) Guns of Navarone 1776 Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (Best Actress winner) On the Waterfront (Best Actor, Actress, Director and Picture winner) Bye Bye Birdie Jason and the Argonauts |

I have written to Bill Hunt at the Bits and asked if he would tell his readers about this thread so we can get more responses, as Penton mentioned, in so many words, the more people we get for the final poll the better it will be. Please spread the word wherever you can!

The Man from Laramie
Ride Lonesome Lord Jim And I think it would be nice for posters to keep this thread on track and to refrain from posting their favourite movies from the 80s and 90s ![]() |

No love for Capra? I know his films aren't in the best of shape, but there's always hope for It Happened One Night, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and their film brethren.
Others I'd be interested in: The Awful Truth His Girl Friday The Lady from Shanghai Born Yesterday On the Waterfront The Bridge on the River Kwai Lawrence of Arabia Jason and the Argonauts A Man for All Seasons Guess Who's Coming to Dinner Taxi Driver The Buddy Holly Story The problem with pre-50s Columbia catalog titles is that they were almost all black and white, and therefore are less appealing to the non-film enthusiast HD crowd. You'll notice that aside from Dr. Strangelove (which has Kubrick appeal) and In Cold Blood (packaged with Capote) Sony has either gone with color catalog films or the B&W Harryhausen titles that have the added colorized version.
