Default Sony Pictures Classics (good lawd thats alota money!)

why are they gouging us so bad. One example is The Class blu-ray for 34.99 on amazon.

Adoration 26.99
Black Book 28.99
The Counterfeiters 28.99
Easy Virtue 28.99
Frozen River 27.99
Jane Austen Book Club 28.99
Married Life 28.99
Paprika 28.99
Persepolis 28.99
Redbelt 28.99
Sleuth 27.99
Standard Operating Procedure 28.99
Steep 28.99
Sugar 27.99
Synecdoche New York 27.99
Volver 28.99
The Wackness 28.99
Youth Without Youth 28.99

sometimes there is a good deal on like run lola run or winged migration, layer cake or kung fu hustle. but more often than not these titles are nearly all hovering at the 26.99-28.99 price on amazon. I mainly get these titles from ebay with a huge discount. but still what gives?

Give it a year. Looks like their marketing team is still living in 2007.

Even stranger is the massive disconnect between the new prices for these Sony Pictures Classics and what they usually can get on the secondary market. It is strange pricing by the studio. I assume unit sales of these titles have been awful.

They might not have been selling. They have been release and well stores have them and might just try to wait it out and see if they can sell them at higher price. Most will drop soon I am sure

I am interested on several SPC titles (see below) but they are always way too expensive. I have some in my wish list but the price of those titles have never been under 20 bucks (at least I haven't seen them under $20).
Not even Criterion titles are that expensive!

Volver
The Class
Rudo y Cursi
The Counterfeiters
Black Book
The Lives of Others

I bet the same will happen with the new Almodóvar film: Broken Embraces.

The Last Station, an excellent piece from SPC about the relationship between Leo Tolstoy (Christopher Plummer) and his wife Sofya Andreyevna (Helen Mirren), for which they are both nominated at the 2010 Academy Awards, can be pre-ordered for $23.99 right now on Amazon, though it was $31.49.

Sony Pictures Classics even on DVD were always higher priced. A title like WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE was always at a retail for 29.99 or so... and it wasn't even 16:9

yeah sony pics classics is my favorite art house, foreign, doc blu-ray label some of the best transfers and soundtracks have been from this arm of sony. with some of the blu-rays from sony like knights tale into the blue etc. selling for like 7.99-9.99... i don't know, its kind of like they are being elitist in a way. like only rich people would buy these films.

I see that El Secreto De Sus Ojos The Secret in Their Eyes is being released by Columbia TriStar in Canada on September 21st. I'm wondering if that means a Sony Pictures Classics release will be out before the end of the year. I'm also wondering how the Canadian disc will compare quality-wise and price-wise with the SPC release...or if I'm gonna have to wait for a sale/coupon to get it below 20 bucks...

The White Ribbon is $29.99 at Best Buy. I think it might be even more on Amazon.

I really want all the movies you listed other than Volver but I'm not willing to pay their prices. I usually say $15 is my price point for Blus but I have made exceptions for Criterions, hope I don't have to do the same with Sony Picture Classics.

I've found a lot of these at my local pawn shop for $9.99. The ones I've picked up so far are:

Black Book
Frozen River
Paprika
Persepolis
Rudo Y Cursi
Synecdoche New York
Volver

It pays to looks around. I've bought probably 80 or so of the movies in my collection from pawn shops and not one has ever even had a scratch.

Add Chloe to that list of pricey Blus by Sony Pictures Classics. It's $24.99
To some of you that's normal, but I don't pay more than around $17, unless it's a tv show or a collectors edition with multiple discs or something.

I bought Sleuth used on Amazon for like 9 bucks, including shipping. I have no idea why they think charging that much is a good idea

Many of the released titles are now on sale over at DDD. A Single Man is not one of them. Most under twenty bucks. See the White Ribbon thread over in the deals subforum.

The Wackness is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's completely under the radar but still holds a good story that stays true to it's characters. For anyone who can still remember their teenage years, I would recommend this as a blind purchase.

Edit, since I didn't have it on Blu, I just bought it on Amazon.

For those who shop at Barnes & Noble you may notice how they have certain bins/areas where they put monthly discounted blu-rays and usually they do 30-40% off for a lot of the SONY CLASSICS line, I have seen many of those titles in bins previously. Always good to check. (Plus members save and additional 10% off that price)
