Talking Warrior (2010) - Nolte, Hardy and Edgerton

I am a huge MMA fan, as well as a big fan of Tom Hardy's work in Bronson and RocknRolla. Joel Edgerton was fantastic in Smokin Aces and King Arthur, so I'm really looking forward to the dynamic of these two as brothers. And well Nolte as an alcoholic? I heard he started researching this part in 1983, he's that committed!

Warrior is an upcoming action drama about mixed martial arts set to be released in September 17th 2010 by Lionsgate. The film will star Nick Nolte, Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Morrison. The movie will be directed by Gavin O'Connor and produced by Greg O'Connor.

Plot

A former boxer (Nolte), whose alcoholism tore apart his family, welcomes back his youngest son (Hardy) and trains him to compete in a mixed martial arts tournament – a path that puts the son on a collision course with his older brother (Edgerton).

Exactly Never Back Down could have been really good, if they didn't go so much for style over substance. The fighting sequences where cool but not the least bit realistic. But I did love that capoeira ri-tard doing all his fancy spins right into a superman punch hahaha. They are definitely going for damn good actors in this movie, and I really hope to see some stills or trailer before long.

Is the director any good (or the writer)? The most important talents involved in any film, IMO.

The director did Pride and Glory, which was pretty good, as well as Miracle. I never saw that but a lot of people really like it

saw the advanced screening and it was pretty good, on par with or better than last year's The Fighter

I liked Warrior more but then again I've seen too many boxing films and this is mma's first big film
acting was solid, might even see a couple of nominations
loved the references to real world mma

[Show spoiler]kurt angle is in it, so don't forget to chant

go see this film, it belongs in this years top 5
rottentomatoes 85% atm, need I say more
