Question Onkyo 607 + best Speakers

ok guys, i'm still debating my HT set up but tax returns are on their way so i'm getting ready to pull the trigger.

Which tower speakers would perform the best with the Onkyo 607 without adding an external amp?
Also does the 607 allow the hook up for an external amp if i would want to add one in the future?

thanks

In regard to the speakers: I just hooked up 4 Polk Monitor 50s and a CS1 to a 607 and they sound great. This is my first venture into having a HT, so I can't speak to how the 50s compare to other speakers on the same receiver, but they do sound good.

No, the 607 does not have pre-outs for an amp setup. What's your budget like?

The best thing is to audition a variety of speakers yourself and see which you like best. Some great performing speakers for the price are Energy, Polk, Infinity, Klipsch, etc. Those will all sound great on your 607

You would have to go up to at least an Onkyo TX-SR707 to have that capability. However, you could try TheFind.com or Google for my model (which is older) and it has this capability. It would probably be considerably cheaper but most likely it might be used too! Hope this helps!

Rich

P.S. My receiver is a TX-SR705 and I'm using it with two Emotiva amplifiers until I eventually purchase a Pre/Pro.

I mean my budget is open but i live in an apartment so going too much bigger doesn't seem logical to me.
I don't really know of any places in Omaha that has a huge selection of speakers besides NFM and BB so auditioning speakers will be kinda tough.

I'm really wanting to stay around 1k for the fronts, center, and receiver..

I work at an electronics retailer.. Klipsch speakers always work pretty well with Onkyo.. There's a nice 5.0 set available, the name escapes me now.. You just need to add a subwoofer.. With that you'd be at around 1k for everything.. Man it's still really early.. Sorry.. I can't remember the name of the set right now..

I just recently purchased the 607 and have ordered the definitve tech 1000's which I listened to at BB. They sounded pretty good for a small speaker and are probably in your price range. At Vanns.com you can offer a lower price to buy and they will reply with a counter offer. Also got the Def Tech super cube 111 which was a little pricey but sounded very good also. Can't wait to set up using diy sub riser I built yesterday from all the great info in this forum.

I have the Onkyo 607 with Energy C-300 towers and a C-C50 center and it sounds awesome. You can see them in my HT gallery. These speakers can be had for a great price but I'd act fast because they aren't made anymore.

Don't let that dissuade you from getting something that may be somewhat large (as in footprint) if you have the space, which has a very good range to it.....

Bigger isn't just for "Louder"
