multichannel pcm is all you will get from the ps3 fat. it cannot bitstream (like the ps3 slim) the HD audio codecs to a receiver for decoding. the ps3 fat decodes them onboard and streams it out as 5 - 7.1 channels of LPCM audio (pre-decoded HD audio) and your receiver will simply play it. you are getting HD audio from the ps3. i believe it is the select button on the controller that when playing a movie that you selected the HD codec in the audio setup menu you will se it says the codec by name, i.e., DTS-HD-MA or Dolby TrueHD. on the receiver display you will most likely see (depending on your listening mode) multichannel LPCM or something to that effect.
your getting HD audio, just not seeing the codec on the receiver that's all. hope this helps. |

Hi, I am new to all this so apologies in advance. I just set up my 7.1 system with Onkyo, signed up with TescoDVDRental to watch Run Fatboy Run on BluRay. I could see it said DTS and 7.1 in the audio description so I was ready to go. When I heard it I was disappointed to see that the sound wasn't coming in 7.1, not even in 5.1.
I was using my ps3 slim. I did press select to make sure correct audio was showing but it didn't give me an option to change. The Onkyo didn't allow me to even use Dolby IIx, nor Neo 6. When I put in my dark knight cd I do get these options. In the set up menu on the BlueRay disk it did have DTS Dolby shown. Any ideas on where I'm going wrong? Or is it just that the disk says 7.1 but isn't. Amrit |

Are you connected using HDMI? How are the player, receiver, and TV connected?
What are the audio output settings on the PS3? What are the settings on the Onkyo input you are using? Sometimes the HDMI connection from the receiver to the TV leads to a stereo downmix. Try disabling the Onkyo's HDMI audio output. |
