Hello,
I just received my BD-P1200 and am trying to set it up. It is connected to a Yamaha RX-V530 5.1 receiver via an optical digital cable. When I run the BD-P1200's sound test I get no sound from the rear or LFE speakers. (The Yamaha's built-in speaker test does produce sound from all 5.1 speakers.) When the BD-P1200's audio test shows that it is sending to the rear speakers I instead hear sound from the front speakers. When it shows that it is sending to the LFE there is no sound whatsoever. I have latest firmware upgrade as claimed by the BD-P1200 itself when I connect via the ethernet cable to do a firmware upgrade. I tried both PCM and bitstream output. Since I am setting this up in a new house and all my DVDs are still in storage I have been unable to test this via a DVD I am familiar with to see if there is any rear channel output with an actual DVD in the drive (much less a Blu-Ray disc which I don't have access to right now). Thanks for any advice! Last edited by paulsen; 08-02-2007 at 04:14 PM. Reason: remove extraneous text from cut-n-paste |

Check the player's settings... there's most likely options in there somewhere, to enable 5.1
Some players are stereo out of the box. Hooking up the optical won't alleviate that because the optical is still sending a stereo signal. You should have options in the audio settings in the player's menu system. |

I got a copy of "300" from Amazon today and all speakers definitly work. Seems the P1200's audio test is bogus! Or there is a secret to using it I haven't uncovered yet.

Thanks to all who have replied. Here is an update:
I sent the same question to Samsung's tech support and they said my unit might need service and to call the 800 number for support. The lady at the 800 number said my firmware might have been corrupted and is sending me an update (version 1.0 ?). My suspicion is that my firmware is just fine and, as clyon says, the test only works for analog output. That would make some sense as that is where there are separate connections for each channel and a test for proper wiring would be quite appropriate. But, it would be nice to be able to do end-to-end testing even when using the digital-optical path. Maybe some future firmware upgrade will provide this capability. If it turns out that my firmware *was* corrupted and a replacement fixes this I will be surprised and will report back! Bob Last edited by paulsen; 08-05-2007 at 11:44 AM.
