Default Mitsubishi HC3800 vs. Epson 6500UB

Hey,

I have to make the payment today. I'm already a little over my budget but am still wondering if I shouldn't pay $800 more to get the "top of the line" projector. What do you guys think? Is it worth the price difference?

Thanks, Paul

I got the Epson powerlite 8100. I recommend it over the hc3800. I believe the 6500ub was replaced by the 8500ub (if you can afford the 8500ub then get it). Either epson models I mentioned are better than the hc3800. I was debating the hc3800 myself.

My concern with the Epson was the use of organic panels. The facts are kind of hard to find--unlike the many opinions I found. What is yours?

I've decided to buy the HC3800 now and maybe sell it sometime in summer to buy the Epson 8500UB. This way I can get to know both DLP and LCD technology, plus I'll have a projector right now

Thanks,

I believe the 6500UB does not use the organic panels and it is only the 6100, 8100 line that use them. Still, I have the 6100 and I do not think there is any concrete data to support non-organic vs organic. I may be wrong but I have not seen anything. Also, the info that is out there shows that the organic panel will degrade over time. I am not one to keep a unit till it dies and will probably upgrade before this happens anyway.

Paul, are you happy with your HC3800. I'm thinking of purchasing one.
