Studio Canal's BD is awful uprez. so might as well grab Criterion's OUT OF PRINT DVD double disc of Ran:

Have you received it yet? I would like to know if your edition has the larger book in a wide slipcase. I had the same thought about the Studio/Canal Blu-ray so I bought a used Criterion DVD on Ebay for under $20 shipped. I have 2 discs in a Nexpak black plastic case with a 30 page color booklet. I had regretted not buying the heavier slipcase version I saw in Barnes and Noble during the 50% off sale a few months ago, so I searched on Ebay.

just received it. it's the heavy case w/the 30 page color. same as yours.

what's this larger book thing you're talking about? are you referring to the mastworks edition?

I just placed an order for this as I've decided NOT to reward Loinsgate/StudioCanal on their release for the time being. It is listed as Backordered with an estimated delivery date of March 1 to March 15...let's hope it arrives.

yup, i've got both and it's basically the same hahaha =P. i found no "MORE" detail on the BD vs. the DVD. i have both a BD player and a Oppo 980 and played both the BD and DVD and have switched 'back and forth' (A/B) compare and the BD is laughable. BD doesn't resolve w/more details than the DVD. definitely an upscale.
