Tough to say, I'm going to say that it'll beat Titanic by $50-$100 million.

Money wise probally a bit actual ticket wise is not even close. With 3D the prices of tickets is almost twice of Titantic.

Titanic was also in theaters for how much longer than Avatar?

I say $10 million to $99 million. It still cannot be #1 that much longer. It's won. We love it. You love it and I love it.

Shouldn't it run 1 year in the theaters to make a valid comparison?

And even those of us who hate it are saying, "Oh, what, it's 'How deep' now? It's over. You got the freakin' baby bottle you wanted. You said you didn't even care what the movie looked like so long as it beat Titanic, and now it did, and now Today Is The First Day of The Rest Of Your Life....Enjoy your boredom. It'll probably kick in a week from now, by which time you'll be rooting for Tim Burton to take over the world, until you learn to grow the hell up. "

...Me, I'll just go out and see a good movie, and wait for it to come out on Blu. Y'know, that Sherlock Holmes movie wasn't so bad, either.

I think if Titanic were released today (and in IMAX 3D), it would eat Avatar's lunch.

Funny title lol. I'm NOT very good at predicting these things though so I can't say.

Wouldn't Avatar get annoyed at Titanic eating it's lunch?

I know I would be...

I'd be like "Hey Titanic... stop eating my lunch! you b*stard! That lunch is clearly marked "Logan" in the fridge! Why do you have to eat other people's lunches for anyway?"

Yeah, total anger. There's a special place in hell reserved for people {and movies} that eat other people's lunches.

+Straight.
We may have giggled at the guy bouncing off the ship's propeller, but just TRY and imagine the sinking scenes in 00's 3-D That Works.

As goofy as Titanic was, the ace in the hole is that we had some actual emotional involvement in what was happening onscreen (yes, the script was danged goofball, but show the CGI ship, put the James Horner faux-Enya on the soundtrack, and we thought we were watching an epic), and left us thinking we'd seen an actual film, instead of a movie.
Anything else for Avatar was just pre-arranged J. Cameron Frenzies.

Do I even have to ask who voted for the Titanic not going down?

Considering it's going to make around $28 million again this weekend, I think it'll come close to or hit $700 million domestic.

The best part of this thread is the title. We know Kate & Leo's ship has hit the iceberg Na'vi; but will it land in a shallow spot on the Thames, or at the bottom of the Marianas Trench? The former is more likely--though for those of you talking inflation-adjusted terms, the high ground is and always will be Scarlett's Tara.
