This is going to sound weird, but there are three BR movies I would buy IF they came equipped with standard BR Snap Cases:
- Midnight Express (Digibook) - Dr. Strangelove (Digibook) - I'm sure there are more out there, but these are the ones that come to mind right away. Yeah, I know, it's all about the movie, right? But why can't I get a damn choice? I'm a snob, I admit, but also a hard-working one who wants what I want. My question is: When do you guys think I will see snap case versions of the Digibook films mentioned above? I know there were some in the past that were, at one time, Digibook only (like, The Matrix), which is why I'm asking. Any ideas when? Thanks in advance. |

I like the digibooks, but I understand the whole "snob" mentality. I'm sure they will eventually get released in standard blu-ray cases, or as you call it "snap cases," but it might not be until the digibooks have been sitting on the shelves for awhile. The Matrix digibook was released 3/31/09, and if it is now showing up in standard blu-ray cases, then I guess the timeframe you are looking for would be around 9-11 months after the digibook has been released. This is merely a guess, and I would think that it would also depend on how much digibook stock is still on the shelves at that time.
If you really do not want to wait, you could always buy the digibook and swap it out for a standard blu-ray case. There is custom artwork available for just about every digibook release because other peeps like yourself don't want the digibook. Last edited by mr. b; 02-09-2010 at 09:34 PM. |

Actually, the UK and Australia use "Amaray" keepcases while the US, Canadian, and Hong Kong releases are in "Elite" keepcases.
mpm74, You can import the Hong Kong releases of both Midnight Express and Dr. Strangelove for the Elite keepcases for the release. They are $25.90 each at DDDHouse.com plus shipping. I'd recommend checking Amazon UK for a better deal but since it sounds like you have case OCD, you wouldn't like the Amarary cases as they are similar in size to a PS3 game case or the same thickness as a DVD case. Thanks for the info, guys.
mr. b: That makes sense. By the way, can I have some links to these sites where I can get custom artwork? And is it good quality (high dpi)? I know it’s as easy as doing a google search, but maybe you can direct me to the best ones. steve_dave: LOL @ the OCD remark. Actually, I’m more concerned that it’s a keep case at the same height than anything (I have an aussie import of Deer Hunter, and the thickness doesn’t bother me at all). The only things that bother me are digibooks, steelbooks (which is no big deal since we have options for these), and any kind of special non-plastic packaging (some of those Criterions, which I have ordered replacement cases for); this includes that BS that comes any kind of toy prop from the film. On a minor note, those 'save the world' flimsy cases are pretty annoying, but I can deal with those. |

Sorry to nitpick, but the correct term is BD (as in Blu-ray Disc) and not BR.
I like the Digibooks too. But it would be just easier to buy a case and print a cover instead of waiting for it to be released that way? ![]() |

I prefer the regular cases to other types of packaging, be it Digibook, Digipak, Steelbook or something else. I bought the UK versions of Dirty Harry, Falling Down and Rome to get regular cases, have pre-ordered the UK Dr. Strangelove (which will hopefully not be a Digibook) and even waited for the UK Steelbook of Crouching Tiger to go out of print so I could get a regular version.
![]() So far I think the only custom packaging I have is the Band of Brothers tin. Last edited by Pyoko; 02-09-2010 at 01:44 PM. |

I forget about amaray and elite being different. When I said amaray, I was referring to the standard slim blu-ray cases that are easily obtainable at several different on-line retail establishments. They are so cheap to get, that if I hated digibooks as others do, that I would simply wait for a great price on the movie I want, then I'd spend a few dollars more for a case and a quality custom cover art. I also edited my post above to clarify that I was talking about a standard blu-ray cases.
I am one of those persons, however, that actually likes a little variety in my collection, so I'm a fan of the SteelBooks (huge actually) and digibooks. There is a large thread on Custom Cover Art here on blu-ray.com. Check this one out: Custom Cover Art Thread I'm sure you can find just about all the covers you are looking for there, as well as tips on printing them up. Look around in that thread for a link to a Custom Cover Art Social Group. Bpmford maintains the group, so it will probably be in his posts in his signature. (edit. I just clicked NorCo_1806's link, and it's the same one I posted, LOL!) Last edited by mr. b; 02-09-2010 at 09:36 PM. |

The digibooks mostly bother me because they are taller than either of the standard Blu-ray case types. Thicker cases from Europe are not so objectionable because they at least conform to the standard in every dimension but thickness. My shelves were built with a small amount of clearance for the regular size, forcing me to segregate the digibooks in my collection to a different shelf because they do not fit.
