The Bounty(1984) - Blu-ray Forum

This is a modern retelling of the famous mutiny story and it's quiet well done. Very overlooked movie with Mel Gibson, Anthony Hopkins, Liam Neeson, Daniel Day-Lewis, Bernard Hill......all when they were a lot younger. Heck, even Laurence Olivier shows up for just a bit. I think it would look great on Blu-ray.

I agree it's an excellent film. Unfortunately it's owned by MGM and, in view of their current financial crisis, I don't think there's any prospect of a Blu release until the expected sale of their movie library is finalised. Then a lot will depend on which studio has acquired it.

Hey, if you were looking this film as I was it is available through amazon in France.

Good news is the picture looks crisp in wide screen (for it's age) with good colours and the audio whilst only stereo is clear and has bass.

The bad news (apart no extras at all!) is the fact that you can only select French audio or English Audio with [U]French Subtitles[U]which kind are for the most part in front of the image as opposed to below it!

Maybe it will get a release for the UK and US! here's hoping

Anyone know if The Bounty is going to come out over here? Don't want another movie from france with french sub titles ruining the image. I have mission to mars from france with french subtitles but that is enough for me and never again.

You might want to take another look at that. I have the Le Bounty disc too and the French subs are removable. You might just have to use your "subtitle" button on your remote instead of looking for it on the options menu.

If that's true, I'd love to order it. I tried amazon france, but it seems it's only available through 3rd party sellers at amazon now who do not ship internationally.

Approaching 4 years after I started this thread, I guess I should get the French version......

Go for it... if Murphy's Law is anything to go by, as soon as you do a U.S. version will probably be announced.

i found the french version to crisp, bright, and didnt seen right at all.
i went back to the dvd version had the darker feel.
the dvd version keeps the mood.. the french version made it look like a HD video
movie on tv.. no thanks

If it ever had a chance on Blu-ray for the US, perhaps it's more now then ever. The vast majority of the AAA/AA titles have made it. We are seeing more lesser known titles now it seems. It's sad that such an excellent telling of the event has yet to make it to the States on Blu-ray or may never will.
