Default Dirty Dancing Keepsake Edition 5/4/10

I just noticed this listing on Amazon, and it says "newly remastered film." Does anyone have any additional information: is it a new master for this release, or the same master ported over from the earlier release?

Good find. I guess we'll have to wait and see if it's a real remaster.

Thinking since the below text is a press release that it is okay to quote the entire thing. Hopefully a version of this without the collectible packaging/book and hotel coupon will be released before too long also.

I have the current "Dirty Dancing" blue ray and honestly I think it's fine....the colors are vibrant but then again I have a great TV. I'll rent it on netflix and if I truly see a Difference I'll re-buy it...

I'm happy with my current Dirty Dancing BD, which only cost me $7.99. I can already see Jennifer Grey's nipples through her wet skirt in the water/lift scene. Can't get any sharper than that!

Based on all the negative word-of-mouth I've heard about the previous release, I'm glad I held off.

I have to agree.....the first Blu-Ray release has to be the worst remastered Blu-Ray movie out there! Just horrible.

I watched the dvd version a couple of months ago and the transfer was nice at some place, but very bad at others. I hope the BD will be awesome. And I hope for my wife it has a french audio track included.

I bought this relatively inexpensive.. about $9.99 - I wonder if the remaster is truly an upgrade. I can't wait to read the blu-ray.com review.

I hope the "collectible packaging" is better than what Warner uses, and is the same height as regular Blu-rays.

If you really love the movie, the keepsake is a great upgrade. New beautiful transfer (I happen to think the original release is one of the worst looking Blu-rays released- this isn't just a remaster of the previous transfer, but a new high def transfer created from scratch), new features (which are finally well produced- including retrospective looks at the music created for the film, how Dirty Dancing was produced to create a theatrical department for Vestron Video, a Patrick Swayze tribute including his widow and brother, and a never before seen interview with Patrick Swayze- done for the previous release but never used).

It's pretty amazing, but almost everyone who has seen the new keepsake edition all say the same thing... "Finally, they got it right."

It truly is.

If someone cant see the problems the original release had then they don't belong on a site like this.

just heard some about this release from someone who has seen it.
they say it does indeed look much better than the horrid first release so that is obviously good news.
on a disappointing note, however, the first release has the deleted scenes in true hd, BUT they are not even unconverted on the "new" version;
sd only.
so I guess having both versions is unfortunately STILL necessary to some extent.
what a pathetic blunder on what otherwise sounds like a good upgrade.
EDIT: looks like the reason for the sd extras was perhaps because they didn't want to spend the $$ to add another bd.
apparently the movie disc is quite full already.
who knows.

After all the negative press over the previous edition, I'd be surprised if this is not a genuine remaster.

Someone at blu-news.com wrote reviews for BOTH versions of the Dirty Dancing BD. And he posted screenshots for both. So I took a few of his screenshots and posted comparison shots at AVSForum.com so people can see a side-by-side comparison of both versions....

While I agree the lack of "enhancements" helped the color a bit, the new release could have done with a bit more contrast. To me the fine details are better looking in the original release, especially in the last screenshot. However, even the new release doesn't look all that spectacular especially compared to other BD transfers of films from the same time period.
