Talking 'The Killing Fields' Starring Worthington and Morgan

I was already looking forward to this movie after reading that Sam Worthington was starring, but now they went ahead and threw in Jeffrey Dean Morgan as his partner! Hell yeah I'm even more excited.

Quote:
Sam Worthington shows no signs of slowing down. With Avatar still making a dent in the box office -- despite being overtaken by Dear John this weekend -- and Clash of the Titans heading to the theaters, Variety has confirmed that the Aussie star will play the lead in The Fields.

Originally titled Texas Killing Fields and written by Donald F. Ferrarone, a former DEA operations agent, the script follows the (scarily) true story of two detectives who attempt to the solve the mystery behind over 70 murders near some oil refineries in coastal Texas.

Talking to Deadline Hollywood, producer Michael Mann said:

It's a brilliant screenplay, filled with things you cannot make up in Hollywood, things you would have had to find the dead bodies in a heroin operation to understand. That’s why it’s such a haunting piece. This is such a spooky zone in Texas where cell phones don’t work, where the homes sit on trailer stilts, and where there’s a hand-painted sign on the bridge that reads, "You Are Now Entering the Cruel World." Source

Quote:
Bloody Disgusting has learned exclusively that Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Losers, Red Dawn, The Resident, Watchmen) will star alongside Sam Worthington in the murder mystery Texas Killing Fields, with Michael Mann producing through his Forward Pass shingle along with Michael Jaffe. Mann's daughter, Ami Canaan Mann, will direct from Donald F. Ferrarone's script. The story focuses on the true story of a pair of police officers who undertook to solve two decades of disappearances and homicides -- totalling as many as 60 victims -- in the industrial wastelands surrounding Gulf Coast refineries. It was previously reported that Worthington will portray a local homicide detective who works with a New York transplant to wage a war against the unknown but fierce killers. Lensing will start in April in Louisiana. Source

Funny, last I had heard Danny Boyle had been in talks to direct then everything fell through. Good to see that this project will get the light of day.

Anchor Bay Acquires 'Texas Killing Fields'

Quote:
Anchor Bay Films has acquired Ami Canaan Mann's Texas Killing Fields for a limited theatrical run this coming October.

Directed by Ami Canaan Mann, daughter of acclaimed Director Michael Mann, the thriller is inspired by true events and "follows a local homicide detective (Sam Worthington) in a small Texan town and his partner, a transplanted cop from New York City (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they track a sadistic serial killer dumping his victims’ mutilated bodies in a nearby marsh locals call 'The Killing Fields.'

The killer changes the game and begins hunting the detectives, teasing them with possible clues at the crime scenes while always remaining one step ahead. When a familiar local girl, Anne (Chloe Grace Moretz) goes missing the detectives find themselves in a race against time to find the killer and save her life."

More info, stills, poster and trailer when released.
Really looking forward to this and happy it was picked up.

Default This is going to be a disaster

I hate to say this, but this movie has all the hallmarks of a colossal failure. They finished filming the movie during the Spring of 2010. There's absolutely no reason why it took them 18 months to get this into the theaters... in limited release, too. It's not like there were months of post production special effects to do or anything.

I can't even count the number of times the release date has been pushed back. That's usually a sure sign of a disaster. There was hardly any publicity for the film at all. It also doesn't inspire confidence that this was made by a first-time director, for a film produced by her famous dad (Michael Mann).

This is going to be a really, really bad movie. I just know it. Which is too bad, because there are a lot of good actors involved in this.

Or maybe since it's a small film they had to film it whenever the actors like Chloe Moretz were available. They have been doing some major projects.

I will reserve judgement until I get to see this, but I have loved every movie that Michael Mann has done. Since his daughter directed this I'm sure her dad had a hand in it.

Actually, I think theyve paired it down to just The Fields, which I like a lot more.

Sometimes movies that get delayed are good, but the studio doesn't know what they have and they have no idea how to even promote the film. Other times it's just the Weinsteins being the Weinsteins (look how many BIG BUDGET movies they've had sitting on shelves collecting dust). But, yeah, usually it means the movie sucks.
