Ordered them all, despite my reservations about their quality. However I figured it's worth $12 per film even if it turns out that they are all upconverted 1080i transfers.

Where do you see them for $12 each? Yesasia looks like ~$22 for Bangkok Dangerous.

it's confirmed that the two BDs - "Queens of Langkasuka" and "Bangkok Dangerous" both are 1920x1080 24p movie.

Can't wait to find out how these Taiwanese BDs turn out. They seem to be multiplying rapidly.

Got Bangkok Dangerous today, watching now.

Specs seem fine - 5.1 Thai LPCM, English subtitles, 1080p/24 AVC encode.

But the actual video quality.... not so much. I have no idea what this is supposed to look like (and I hear the US DVD is simply atrocious, fullscreen pan'n'scan with terrible quality). But unless the film was shot with SD video cameras, I can't imagine this is the best it can get. Very murky, uneven image, with occasional edge enhancement and what looks like DNR smearing. Very low detail level. If someone said it was an SD upscale, I would not have any real evidence to the contrary.

Also not sure about the aspect ratio - it's in the very unusual 2.13:1. IMDB reports 1.85:1, but that could just be how it was shown in America. I can't find any real info on this issue beyond the IMDB listing, so I don't know what to conclude. The framing looks fine for what it's worth.

I purchased the bangkok dangerous blu-ray as well, and since I have bangkok dangerous R2 DVD as well, here is a quick comparison, the DVD is 25i, full screen with 16:9 video display, the video turned to grey and dark almostly, the video quality is worst than a general DVD. this blu-ray version is 24p, video playback is stable and smooth, however it looks like a better DVD playback
with a blu-ray player by its up-scale function. this blu-ray version,
the upper and lower portion seems to be cutted if compared to DVD,
but there are extra video display left hand side and right hand side if compared to DVD. Generally, with the money I paid, this blu-ray
version is cheaper than the DVD version, so it's worth of having the
blu-ray version. And I also bought another thailand movie - queens of langkasuka, I found that the video quality is better than bangkok dangerous almost all of the films. About the queens of langkasuka, there are lots of different versions, except this taiwanese version, there are germany version, france version, netherland version.
And even there comes US version in May,

http://www.asianblurayguide.com/deta..._thailand_usa/

But I couldn't find out there is another version of bangkok dangerous except this taiwanese version.

I got them today. They are all BD-25 encoded with 1080p24 AVC video and all feature original audio in 5.1 LPCM as well as DD5.1. Subtitles are removable traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, and English. Only special feature is trailers.

Now the bad news, the video on all features appear heavily filtered with numerous artifacts that suggest probable conversion from 480i/1080i. Bangkok Dangerous and Man, Woman, & the Wall look no better than poor DVD resolution at best. The Korean titles (Beautiful Sunday, 200 Pounds Beauty, The Scarlet Letter, The Restless) look about the same as heavily compressed satellite HD Lite and no better than upconverted DVD. Bullet & Brain look slightly worse than upconverted DVD. Queens of Langkasuka (114min cut) looks the best of the bunch, but still does not measure up to recent HK Blu-ray in PQ. However all in all, for less than $12 each delivered to the US, I can't really complain about the overall package.

I had a chance last night to directly compare Scarlet Letter Blu-ray from BitWel with my Korean R3 SE DVD both playing through Oppo BDP-83. Guess what, the DVD had better PQ. I had forgotten how good upconverted DVD can look. The DVD had just as much detail as the Blu-ray and without the occasional combing artifact, heavy DNR, and edge enhancement that's on the Blu-ray. The Blu-ray picture is very similar to the recent Once Upon a Time in China trilogy from HK with similar DNR and edge enhancement.

Given how the picture looks, I also have my doubts about the lossless PCM track that is on the disk. Even though it's 5.1 PCM track, I suspect that it could just as well be lossless encoding of lossy 5.1 DD track on the DVD.

In conclusion, if you already own a good DVD copy, it makes no sense to "upgrade" to these cheap Taiwan BDs from BitWel/Shengchi. However if you don't have the DVD, then these may be the cheapest way to own these Korean movies.

More korean movies released in taiwan, "shadowless sword", "too beautiful to lie", "wet dreams", "to sire with love", "say yes". I have ordered the "shadowless sword" blu-ray, and since I can borrow the
germany version of "shadowless sword" blu-ray from my friend, I will post a review after I check both discs.

information from

http://dvd.jsdvd.com/index.php?cPath=34_203&language=us

There are 4 new BD titles just released, they are
"My Tutor Friend 2",
"Bystanders",
"Yo Yo Girl Cup",
"Chai-Lai"
they are still NT$299, cheaper than some DVD. Till now, the BD titles released by BitWel are NT$299, How come BitWel fixed their BD title price to NT$299??? Very strange!!! Anyway, since those BD are cheap, so I have bought their 4 BD titles, and another 4 BD titles on the way home.
