Default PS2 Ratchet Titles coming to the PS3?

Insomniac: PS2 Ratchet Titles Could Come To The PS3

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/6692.html

The return of many PS1 classics on the PlayStation Network has proven to be a great success, but how's about moving along to PS2 games?

Some developers and publishers have already expressed their desire to see this happen, and the latest on the list is Insomniac Games. According to Examiner.com, there has been some talk about bringing the great Ratchet and Clank PS2 titles to the PS3 in some form, perhaps even in high-def Blu-Ray format like we saw with the God of War Collection. The subject has come up over at Insomniac's Twitter page and as you can see, there's one particular response that sounds promising:

"It's a cool idea, if there is enough support for this sort of thing. If SCEA wants to do it, we'd support a dev taking it on."

If you're wondering, SCE Santa Monica didn't handle the GoW conversion for the aforementioned God of War Collection; they outsourced that project to Bluepoint Games. And now, it seems that Insomniac is perfectly willing to do something similar, so perhaps we'll see that happen in the future. Maybe if the Collection does well financially...? Ratchet is one of those franchises that has been loved for multiple generations and although the more advanced ones are great, there's something to be said for the old classics.

Would be neat if they also added functioning online support for "Up Your Arsenal" and "Deadlocked"(both co-op and competitive).

I've played them all but I only own Up your Arsenal. I'd rebuy them at 720p AA 60fps for sure.

Trophies have to be included anyways as of January 2009 so no worries there as long as it's not just a port of the PS2 version but an actual upgraded HD transfer.

I've never played the PS2 Ratchet titles, so I would buy this for sure if they did it.

Ditto for me. I'm currently just finishing up Tools of Destruction and I'm loving it.

YES! I would mark out like mad if they did that. Disappointed with the lack of online on the PS3 Ratchet games.

Off all the R&C titles, I think I'd put Up Your Aresenal at the top of the list.

The 2 PS3 titles weren't bad. I liked Crack in Time better than Tools of Destruction.

The only thing that would bug me about this is that Tools of Destruction (the best one in the series) wont have a trophy list. I wish Insomniac would wise up and do this!

Doing what they did to GOW & GOWII to the Ratchet and Clank series would be nice but it won't be very long before we see PS2 titles on PSN. (And honestly I'd probably prefer them as digital media to having another game lying around)

I don't really feel like doing through the long explanation so I'll just sum up.

3 PS3 models were backwards compatible and all have issues. CECHA01/B01 actually had an emotion engine GPU. This was expensive as you basically had a PS2 inside inside your PS3. The E01 had an emulator but there were lots of problems (nearly 40% of the PS2 library would not function correctly).

It's these reasons Sony no longer makes BC PS3s.

Last year Sony filed a patent for a new cell-based Emotion Engine Emulator. It seems Sony has or is working on a way for the PS3 to translate and store Emotion Engine data. If this is accurate then all that would be needed is a firmware update to make every single PS3 backwards compatible.

If Sony has fixed the emulator problems there is no way we won't see backwards compatibility on every console. From a business standpoint a frimware update is inexpensive and opens up huge revenue possibilities. I have no idea if this would allow you to play disc based PS2 games, but being Dvd's I don't see why not.

Just something for people to think about.

I would without a doubt be super excited for this. I want both an insomniac ps2 collection and a naughty dog ps2 collection. Bring me my ps2 ratchet and clanks and jak and daxter's on blu-ray. I for one am all for it.

I'm hoping we see a lot more transfers of good game series' like they did with God of War. I would love if they did a Rachet and Clank collection and a Jak and Daxter Collection. I would buy both of those in a heartbeat.

I have all of them from the PS2 generation. I'd love to see them get an HD treatment.

I still own and play the PS2 ones, and would buy the HD versions on release. Man, I love the R&C games.

I think that with the release of any ps2 compilation they should patch ToD to add trophies.
