Default No Blu-ray for Burn Notice Season 3

Quote:
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced the release of Burn Notice: Season Three for June 1. Unfortunately, it will come out in standard-definition DVD only. This is a new chapter in the erratic hidef career of this TV series: Season One was released in June 2008 on DVD only; a year later, Season Two was released on DVD and BD (but the studio didn't release Season One on BD); and now Season Three goes back to DVD only.

Burn Notice thus joins the ranks of other TV series whose studios have pulled back from BD releasing and gone back to DVD only, such as Sony with Rescue Me and Damages, and Warner with Nip/Tuck.

But it is another Fox series, Prison Break, that has the most chequered BD history: Seasons One and Three got a BD release, as well as Prison Break: The Final Break, but not Seasons Two and Four: whoever wants to have the complete series in hidef must turn to importing from France or Germany.

When Burn Notice: Season Two was released on BD, it received poor reviews in the audio/video department. This, coupled to its high list price ($59.99, while the DVD listed for $39.99), may account for poor sales for this BD season set, despite its action/espionage genre: it didn't make the top 20 in its first week, and its percentage of sales from Blu-ray was only 8%.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Yeah I don't get it. This is one of the few TV series I am willing to buy and they're not going to be releasing it on blu. Even if they did have season 3 coming out I wouldn't get it unless they released a remastered complete collection. The season 2 release is an abomination and should be embarrassing to the studio. The airings on USA-HD look pretty good to me, I don't get what's going on.

I wish all the new season came out on Blu instead of only certain ones. I am so mad about this right now i love Burn Notice. I also don't understand the price excuse they should just release both DVD and Blu at the same MSRP like the showtime shows Weeds and Nurse Jackie then all people with a Blu-ray player will buy that over DVD.

It doesn't really matter to me if they were going to release another poor release like Season Two's and never release Season One. I love the show and would have bought it all on Blu-Ray, but Fox made it easy to resist.

A good-looking BD would have been nice, but the DVD versions for the first two seasons look good enough to me when played on a system having great upscaling.

Most importantly, I love watching Burn Notice as a 'package' - so BD/DVD, mix of both, whatever........

I don't need to feel like I'm watching everything through an open window (Blu-Ray); I'll save my whining for something really worth whining about......

That's too bad. The show actually looked like it would translate well to blu this past year. Oh well. Looks like I'll continue my trend of buying almost all my tv shows on DVD still (except for the Pacific when that will eventually be released!).

TV on DVD took years to develop, expect the same for blu-ray. These sets do considerably well on DVD and there is no sales incentive to release these to blu-ray quite yet. It has nothing to do with AQ, PQ, etc like the news report states. Its all about sales, If the set cant sell 1000 units, its not cost effective.

I own alot of TV on DVD and i wont upgrade to a bluray version. Point being is most sets are a one time view and they are shelved. DVD, even up-scaled DVD quenches that desire for me.

Profitability is the deciding factor unfortunately and DVD still has that stronghold over BD as the preferred format.
