Just wondering. I used to have an absolute CRAZY amount of shows both video and audio, and lost them in the move.
I still have a good deal of Counting Crows and Pearl Jam stuff (including their first show EVER) and even some Beatles stuff. Anyone else collect shows? |

I have dabbled in them, but the sheer amount of live music available is overwhelming for most major artists. On top of that, so many of the soundboards or radio broadcasts are in rough shape. I wish there were reliable guides on the best boots, but so often it comes down to personal preference. Balancing sound quality versus musical quality is a tough issue.
But there are a few that are essential for fans of particular artists. Many legitimate releases were driven by capitalizing on the popularity of certain bootlegs. |

I have a Lovage concert like that, somewhere. It's a DVD show with someone with the camera. Pretty cool actually. And a lot of bands let you tape them (most don't allow video though), like Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, Grateful Dead, and others. Some of my favorite shows I've had are early shows in the band's career. My faves that I've had: Counting Crows - Live @ the Fox Theater, Boulder CO (1993) (before their debut album came out. Kinda cool hearing the guy introducing them saying "they're so new I've never even heard of them" lol). Pearl Jam - Self Pollution (complete 4 hour broadcast). This was done in Eddie Vedder's basement and broadcast to any radio station that cared to pick them up, for either a little bit or the whole four hours. Took me awhile to find the whole four hour one though. It's Eddie and his friends just sitting in his basement, playing records of bands they like, and a few of his famous musician friends stopped by and played including Soundgarden, The Gits and others. Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians - Club Dada, Texas. I don't have this one anymore and I've been looking all over for it. Nice little intimate setting, back in the early 2000's I believe. Third Eye Blind. Can't remember where it was, but it was in Boston I believe. Before their first album came out, and they played a "new song" called Jumper. Nice little club atmosphere. |

I used to buy any Nine Inch Nails bootleg I could find. I remember finally stumbling across a recording of them at Woodstock 94 after I looked for a couple of years. Now I'm sure I could find it in about 3 seconds somewhere on the 'net.
They had an open recording policy on their last tour, which was pretty cool since they really mixed up their setlists and played a bunch of songs that were never played live before. |

I remember an interview with Adam Duritz (Counting Crows lead singer) and he was talking about they'd do some show in Amsterdam and the NEXT DAY he'd walk down to this record shop and they'd already have the show on the shelves. lol. That's hilarious. I think he said at one point that he actually collects boots of their shows. |

Got a few Jimmy Buffett shows as well as Maiden, Priest, Testament, Coldplay. I also have a Metallica VHS from the 92 tour. Pretty rough quailty but I was there so its more sentimental.
Also have VHS Pink Floyd The Wall Nasseau Stadium from 1980. Audience vid recording. Looks like crap but its a rarity so Im not gonna Beotch Last edited by Dj Matt B; 04-06-2010 at 03:59 PM. |

Well, I have a majority of Led-Zeppelin live tapes ranging from a raw 1968 gig in Spokane, WA to their last ever at Berlin on 7/7/80. I also amassed shows from The Rolling Stones too. There are also studio outtakes and rehearsal tapes of both available. Interesting stuff...
Given my addiction to Blus and movie collecting, I have fallen off listening to music. I have to somehow get back to it... |
