Arrow Puss in Boots Review Thread (Use Spoiler Tags)

Can they keep the 'Shrek' world interesting enough for another visit?
Quote:
DreamWorks Animation is officially moving forward with their Puss in Boots spin-off and have hired Tom Wheeler to write the screenplay. DWA is already in production on Shrek Goes Fourth for 2010, which means this Puss in Boots movie will be the second feature set in the Shrek universe that we'll be seeing in the next few years. Shrek the Third co-writer and co-director Chris Miller wrote an early draft of the screenplay, but Wheeler is being brought in to re-work it. No other details were revealed regarding the story, although we're guessing it might focus on the cat's origin before he met Shrek in some way.

I liked the character in Shrek 3. This might be worth seeing.

Arrow Antonio Banderas on "Puss in Boots" Spin-Off

Quote:
ComingSoon spoke to Antonio Banderas, who said that he will have his third (and final) recording session next week for "Shrek Forever After" and has already taken a look at the script for the "Puss in Boots" spin-off movie.

"A couple of days ago, I went to DreamWorks and they pitched me what is going to be Puss in Boots' own movie, and it looks unbelievable," he said. "It looks really, really cool. They've been working very, very heavy on the script for almost three years, and they didn't just want to give me any kind of thing until the other day when Jeffrey finally called me and he said it was done. I went there and I was very surprised how the movie is going to take off. I love it."

Banderas confirmed that the new movie will be an origin story. "Yes, we're going to go from the time he's a very little cat, so you see actually why and how he becomes an adult killer, and the reasons why he ends up on that path," he explained.
Can the Shrek world support a spin-off?

I hope not. That a-hole is already pompous enough, I can only imagine how cocky he would be if he got his own movie.

Puss in Boots was announced all the way back after Shrek 2 was released. Aparently, he was really popular when they saw the second film.

Hes one of the few new characters introduced in Shrek 2 that Shrek 3 didn't completely dystroy, hopefully shrek 4 and puss in boots actual manage to be good unlike the horror that was shrek the third *shudders at the thought of having to watch that film again*.

Default Banderas Talks about this one.

Hey,

Looks like this is a possible 2012.

Puss in Boots is the best:

Quote:
A few months ago we posted about the fact that the upcoming Shrek spin-off movie featuring Puss in Boots (voiced by Antonio Banderas) would be an origin story. We learned that the movie would deal with the early years of the feisty feline, and later we also learned that it would feature new characters (read: no Shrek, no Princess Fiona, no Donkey).

However, thanks to Latino Review, we get word that the above may not be entirely the case. El Guapo from LR got a chance to talk to Banderas at a junket for his new movie, The Other Man, where he asked the actor about how the Puss in Boots movie was going. On top of revealing an apparent new Halloween special featuring the character (which I’ll get to in a sec), Banderas revealed that the spin-off will take place between Shrek 4 and 5.

So how can Puss in Boots be an origin story if it doesn’t take place before his first appearance in Shrek 2? As Latino Review notes/asks - will the character’s origin be told in the form of flashbacks? I would rather they just make it a proper prequel movie if they’re going to go with an actual origin story.

As I’ve said before, I don’t think there’s enough to the Puss in Boots character to justify a full-length feature film telling his story. For me, he worked as a novelty character when he appeared in Shrek 2, but it wasn’t long before that novelty wore off. I’m sure a spin-off would do pretty well financially (any link to the Shrek series is bound to rope in the kiddies), but I’m not all that enthused about it.

With regards to the aforementioned Halloween special, Banderas spoke of a new one to air not this Halloween but next. Latino Review says (and apologies for the fact that) they might have picked Banderas up wrong, and he may actually have been referring to the upcoming Shrek Halloween special, Shrek or Treat. It SOUNDS more like a new special, but no way to tell for sure yet.

What do you think about what Banderas has revealed about a Puss in Boots spin-off? How do you think the character’s origin story will be told (flashbacks)?

Puss in Boots is slated for a March 30th, 2012 release.

Enjoy.

I just want them to stopping moking these altogether, before they really screw it up.

aparantly they we're in talks for 4 this and a prequel to shrek

With that in mind, the Puss in Boots movie has been in the works for a very long time, so I think I have hope for it, but...

Obermind will be better.

Foggy, all the Shreks upcoming flicks had been planned since the success of the first and 2nd specifically. The moment the first one succeeded in the Box Office Paramount/Dreamworks released their intentions on making 4 to 5 films.

I think PUSS is going to happen (an opportunity to capitalize on the series) so as long as big bucks involved as an ambition to reach there is no stopping it.

I know they're coming, I just don't want them too, I want to remeber them as a really great series not a continual cash in, I don't think they're going to get better only worse, Puss in Boots I think can be great though, and if I like what I see then I will go and see it, but shrek is the chldren's Friday the 13th, or more recently Saw, they don't know when to give up, and because they make money they keep on making them, the only problem is that, shrek is for kids, so adults don't care what they'll take them too, as long as they stay quiet. So they make more money and are always sucsessful, unlike Saw which has been always on a decrese each year.

Saw V was made for 11 million and worldwide made 114 million.

Not saying it was great but it's a lot of profit.

Puss will make for a good children's movie, don't think he's good enough to be the main character in a movie that will appeal to everyone.
