Default No new 65nm chip in HDMI XBox?

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/birds-of-...60s-289202.php

Looks like at least one new HDMI XBox does NOT have the new 'cooler' chip.

Already known

If you look on the tag with the barcode, it says "Zephyr" at the top line

When they go 65nm, it'll say "falcon"

What it does have is the new heatpiped heatsink on the GPU that brute force solves the problem

So, was it the GPU frying or the surrounding components?

And how they heck did the original Xbox 360 design get out the door without someone doing a temperature check of the key chips?

See no evil?

I will buy a 360 when the "falcon" models hit store shelves.

They hypothesis is this

The GPU had inadequate cooling, and after many on/off, hot/cold cycles this caused the board to warp, and would break the solder points to the board. That's why the Towel Trick works, because it remelts the solder just enough to make a connection again. Nothing "fried" mind you, which is why with the proper tools fixing it isn't too hard.

They've placed a huge new heatpiped heatsink on there(see the copper tube), which should by all indications solve the problem.
