Rock 'N' Roll High School Blu-ray

Vince Lombardi High School has quite a reputation: it's the wildest, most rockin' high school around! That is, until a thug of a principal, Miss Togar, comes along and tries to make the school a totalitarian state. • Audio commentaries:
    • Allan Arkush, producer Mike Finnell and screenwriter Richard Whitley
    • Roger Corman And Dey Young
    • Allan Arkush, P.J. Soles And Clint Howard
  • Back to School: A retrospective including all-new interviews with Allan Arkush, Roger Corman, Joe Dante, Dey Young, Marky Ramone and More . . .
  • Staying After Class: A roundtable interview with P.J. Soles, Vincent Van Patten and Dey Young

I sold my DVD for this. I hope it's a good transfer.

this is exactly the kind of movies that should not be transferred to HD or else it would loose its meaning. The original punk subculture is about distortion, nosiy sounds, anti-establishment views with ideologies including nihilism, etc.
A lot of time, I would appreciate a good punk band live rather than listening to the CD with clean mastering at home.
Personally, I think by transferring the film to HD, it would destroy the ideas behind the film and I would rather watch it on VHS.

Despite this movie featuring the Ramones, it's hardly a "punk" movie. The movie was originally written for Cheap Trick, but they turned it down.

That being said, I'd buy "The Decline of Western Civilization" or "American Hardcore" on Blu-ray if they were released. If you really think that it would somehow diminish the movement, I suggest you reevaluate what you think punk is all about. You seem way too concerned with an aesthetic.

Yes, I know about the Cheap Trick. By having Ramones, the director changed the entire mood of the film in comparison to a "cheap trick" version. We can argue all night about the "intended music genre" of the film and we will never get anywhere.

The movie and the new HD transfer can be compared to an old 8-bit classic Nintendo game being re-released on Wii. It's just not the same if you play it on the Wii on a 50" Plasma.
There goes for a lot of other films in which the directors do not focus on the sharpness or color of the picture.... blah....

With an aesthetic what? I never thought the transfer would diminish the "movement", it's just wasted money that could go elsewhere to lend a helping hand to a subculture. Personally, I would rather pay to see a couple shows in order to help them out than to pay money to double dip on a release like this, a release that's supposed to represent the energy, the carefree views of the music genre... you know.... you don't need to have the perfect pitch, rhythm, etc. Same with the film, you don't need to have razor sharp images or digitally clear sounds to enjoy this film.
I was merely stating a preference, but I don't think I have to reevaluate what I think punk is all about.
Afterall, there are different reasons behind double dipping and I was just explaining why I won't double dip.

PS: don't list me a couple other punk-related films and shove that "you need to rethink what you know about punk". I have actually met and worked for several artists featured in American Hardcore.

Will be nice to have it anamorphic, I have the old Lumavision DVD from 1987, hope they port the great commentary from that release! I also would like to see the sequel (R&RHSF) get a blu release.

OMG! You meet people that were in American Hardcore?!?!

Don't try to get all "punker than thou". Based on your user name being a terrible album from a terrible band, I can surmise that I've probably been involved with punk for longer than you've been alive. You've probably never even seen the Ramones live. It doesn't take much effort to meet Ian MacKaye or whomever. They're all very accessible people. Get over yourself and have fun "upping the punx" by watching stuff on VHS.

Since when did punk rock need saving? That's the most un-punk rock thing I have ever heard.

haha, worked for is not the same as "met after a show saying HI I love your band", can you even read? guess all your years of mosh pitting has given you a brain damage, eh?

look at you, talk about accessibility of these people, thinking that you are all lock and loll because you have seen the shows live and talked to the peeps

seriously, what's holier than thou? since when is it be wrong to state a preference, to state that you enjoy an album? don't be such a hypocrite and judge other people's taste in music and think that YOUR holy taste in music is superior to others
"don't try to get all punker than thou" look who's talking
Personally, I think that Coral Fang is a good album. The songs are very compelling and they show a lot of the songwriter's growth.

besides, it's not about upping the punk, it's about whether or not the upgrade is worthy of double dipping
there is a fine line between "refusing to upgrade because one wants to be pretentious" and "realizing that it's not worth the money to upgrade"

don't pretend that you know it all simply because you saw some documentary movies or went to a couple shows or even learned to play a couple songs, there are people who have actually worked in the industry
same shit with just about every other wannabes
just because they saw a couple episodes of House MD or ER, they think they can cure cancer, or just because they saw a couple shows on Food Network, they think they can cook like an Iron Chef

pathetic

I responded to your PM that included the same text.

I maintain that your original point is nonsense.

I understand the whole raw and rough desire for punk rock stuff; I love live albums, etc., but the dvd is really, really poor quality, so I won't mind the double dip. Besides, I think I got my money's worth - I watch this movie every day, and I'm not kidding. My kids love it (the music parts, only) and they demand that we watch it every evening! It's hysterical, they love each of the Ramones, especially Joey; my three year old wants to marry him! The blu ray edition will be welcomed since the sound on my copy is really bad; I think they set the levels too high when they did the final mix because there's a lot of static and buzz, not in a good way either...

On that note, I'm continually amazed by Blu Ray (I'm new to this). Many movies that I felt were "good enough" on dvd are truly amazing on Blu; really enjoy the medium. Well, that's my two cents...

"HIT IT, MARKY!!!"

Sorry; but this is a ridiculous post. Are you saying that when I saw it in the theatre when it was first released that I shouldn't have enjoyed it as much as when it was later on VHS? The 35mm projection I saw allowed the "distortion, nosiy (sic) sounds, anti-establishment views..." etc. to be better enjoyed. The BD version will be much closer to the original experience than any home video version has been.

And, let's not get all highbrow. This wasn't some anarchist manifesto. It was a Roger Corman, grade-b, fun teen movie.

Doug

How so? A good Blu-ray transfer will accurately represent the film's intended look.

I'm not getting any of those, but I'm happy both for their fans and because I feel I'm getting just that much closer to a BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS blu.

I'd wet my pants if that got announced for a BD release.

On-topic, I'm very much looking forward to upgrading my R&RHS DVD with this release.

Actually, all the film being transferred to HD is going to do, is most likely make it look closer to how it appeared theatrically... You don't want that Granted, there can always be mastering technicalities that botch a transfer...but I'd imagine the Blu will probably be a real step up from the DVD version in more closely representing the film's theatrical presentation What's wrong with that?
