Roger Corman's "Frankenstein Unbound" (1990)

For anyone who's seen, and actually enjoyed, Roger Corman's "Frankenstein Unbound", then hopefully Fox will consider an inevitable Blu-ray release of the movie in the near future. This was actually a pretty good sci-fi/horror hybrid movie. Some people might have found it a little campy because of Roger Corman directing it, but I still thought it was pretty good. And at an 85 minute running time, it's a great time-killer. John Hurt turned in an excellent performance as Dr. Joe Buchanan, a scientist in the year 2031 who has developed a weapon for the government that practically harnesses the power of a black hole. However, the slightly mad doctor's experiment has some minor side effects, such as changes in the global weather patterns and rifts in time. And Hurt falls victim to one of those time slips, and is zapped to 1817 Switzerland. It is there that he has a chance meeting with Dr. Victor Frankenstein (the late, great Raul Julia). And Hurt realizes that the story of Frankenstein and his "monster" turns out to be more fact than fiction. And in a weird turn of events, the doctor also meets Mary Shelley (Bridget Fonda), who would go on to write her world-renowned novel, "Frankenstein" (which Dr. Buchanan obviously knows already from meeting her "inspirations" for the book). There is also a great cameo appearance from Jason Patric (as Lord Byron). And the movie also had a rare film appearance from the late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence (as Percy Shelley). Right now, I have the movie on DVD, but seeing it in hi-def will be even better! Fox, please hurry up and announce "Frankenstein Unbound" on Blu-ray (even if the disc is a bare-bones release)!!
