Default Need help/info re:TV signal for my PC.

I need your help guys with regard to getting a Satellite/Cable signal coming through my PC. I did it years ago with an add-on Hauppage product (forget the name), but I want HD signals now.

Here is my situation. I'll be moving in 2 months and will have Satellite service installed from Bell Canada and connected to my 42" Panasonic Plasma. I also want to connect this signal to my PC, which is a brand-new Dell Inspiron 545 with Core 2 Quad, 8gb ram, but only onboard Intel Graphics. My current monitor is NOT HDCP compliant, but I will get one to add to my setup. I suspect I will need a seperate graphics card to accomodate both monitors (nothing too expensive please as I don't play games anyway).

What other hardware and cabling will I need to have my Satellite signal going to both the TV and the PC?

John

good luck attempting to swap out parts on a dell unless you will be getting the components from them which will cost you an arm an a leg for a new Motherboard and card

Thanks, but that doesn't really answer my question.

Anyone with something more constructive to add?

John

Hey John,

What kind of out outputs does your cable/satellite box have? I'm assuming it's got one HDMI and one component (and probably a composite or two). If you're going to try and get the signal from your box to your TV AND computer at the same time, then you will need to have its signal sent over two different cables (I think). My DirecTV HD DVR is set up similarly: I've got the HDMI going to the receiver (which goes to the TV), and then a composite going to my DVD recorder. The DVR outputs a signal over both simultaneously, which allows me to record to DVD if I so choose.
