Default Pro Wrestling fans.. Will It ever be the way it was? Good..

WHY is wrestling not good anymore? I mean the mid 90s til about 2002 was awesome and soooo much fun to watch.. Now its just... blahh.. Is it because everything has been done already? All the acts/personalities have been played out? I just dont get it.. and Honestly I dont EVER see wrestling as being as entertaining as it was from 95-2002..

The fans arent into it anymore, the wrestlers are younger but just not fun to watch, even tho SOME of them are much better actual "pro wrestlers".. I just remember looking forward to watching the monday night wars , and seeing what fun stuff was gonna happen, Now its All commercials and garbage writing

I realize the attitude era , and the time WCW started getting big was all new, and original so thats part of it, but its almost depressing to watch now

Stone cold, the rock, Angle, and even when Lesnar came in was great The beginning of DX, the writing and "entertainment " value was so good.. Now it just seems like they are trying to copy what was done in the past , but its not working , and for the main reason not being that its not good, but its been done before..

Do you think we will ever have another attitude era? I dont think so , and I think Vince has been trying to do that for a LOOONG time, But the excitement and originality are just not there anymore

so what do you guys think?

When you said "good" I thought you meant Wrestlemania III "good".

Those were the days!

if was "good" at wrestlemania 3 because there was nothing else to do back then, no internet, no free ppv, etc etc It was all new and original.. The wrestling itself , to me anyways was horrible.. and boring

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat vs Macho Man Randy Savage (Wrestlemania 3) is still one of the best, if not THE best, matches ever.

Nothing comes close, but that's just me.

I think jobbers made wrestling what it was.

It used to be big whenever two stars actually wrestled against each other. That kind of thing was saved for a PPV.

And remember when PPVs were only every other month, at most?

January -- Royal Rumble
March -- WrestleMania
July -- SummerSlam
November -- Survivor Series

Something like that. Then they added King of the Ring between WM and SummerSlam.

And then started cramming an In Your House PPV in between all the main ones, to fill out the calendar.

I think WCW is responsible for having stars wrestle against each other regularly on the weekly shows, so WWF was forced to do away with the jobbers.

So now when Cena fights Batista at WM, why am I supposed to think it's any bigger of a deal than the times they fight on Raw?

I stopped watching wrestling years ago, so I don't really know/care.

But I remember once as a kid, Bret Hart wrestled one of the Headshrinkers on one of the weekly shows. As a kid, I never got to see the PPVs (I watched them with the squiggly lines on the screen), so even though Bret was wrestling half of a tag team, actually getting to see the world champion wrestle was HUGE.

Very true man.. Thats another big part of it.. Its so much about the money and competition now , ANY WWE or TNA show during the week is the same as a WWE PPV back in the day.. Itts like every match is a big name against a big name, so theres really nothing special about it anymore when there IS a PPV...

But not even going that far back.. Like I said the late 90s with stone cold and the rock , DX .. wow.. THAT was entertainment

Lol! Jobbers!!!!

I remember the Ultimate Warrior coming out to wrestle, what looked like, a kid off the street. Warrior should've been charged with attempted murder. It was brutal! That match scarred me for life.

I don't think it will. I try to watch every now and then but just can't handle most of it now. I was watching during the crazy ratings period of WWF vs WCW. Both were awesome at the time. Stone Cold was pure entertainment. Later on, nothing could top THE ROCK, especially his mic skills.

Even the insane volume in the arenas when goldberg started getting big in wcw.. I dunno guys , i think the new technology and internet is killing off alot of things we really dont even think about

I hate how WWE have become so toned down and PG rated these days. I miss the days of RVD...and the Hardcore title.

Heck, RVD is the single reason I'm just now trying out TNA.

After really trying to remember anything about that Warrior match I was talking about, I finally found it! Many wrestlers said that Warrior just cared about himself and didn't care if he hurt the guy he was working with. Here's proof. Look for the elbow drop where he just lands on the poor guy. The clothline is pretty ruthless too. The entire match is sloppy. What an ass. Poor Jobber...

I was there as an 11 year old. It was much more memorable than the other Wrestlemania I went to (23).

It featured the largest crowd in the history of American wrestling, 2 of the biggest stars in history (Hogan/Andre) in a match, and the Savage/Steamboat match is regarded as one of the best matches to ever take place on American soil.

Wrestling took a big turn for the worse when WCW died.

I hated the years where hardcore matches seemed to infect wrestling. Maybe WWF felt they were losing some edginess to ECW, and tried to emulate some of it, but I don't think it was a good idea in the long-term for wrestlers, so I'm glad it's more or less been done away with.

It seemed like there was a time when every match involved some guy getting hit in the head with a chair, and it seemed stupid.

Haha. My favorite Ultimate Warrior moment is the match with Hogan at Wrestlemania... 6? (I think?).

His first mistake is that after Hogan gave him the big boot to the face, Warrior apparently thought Hogan was going straight for the leg drop. As Hogan heads towards the ropes, you see Warrior give a slight twitch, as if he's trying to avoid the leg drop. Then he realizes what's going on, and lays back down.

Then after the missed leg drop, Warrior gets right up and bounces off the ropes and does a frogsplash.

But to say he bounced off the ropes is to give him far too much credit. He lightly grazed the ropes, at best. What a lazy performer overall.

I can't find a better video than this, but the legdrop fiasco happens around the 7:50 mark.

That match also gave us this classic gif:

This is coming from a non-wrestling fan (since I reached the age of reason, anyway), so take it for whatever.

I think the MAJOR reason it's not as good as it used to be, is because of the turn to the racy and "shock" type of behavior and storylines.

I mean, Wrestling's always been over the top, but I think over the past 10-20 years it's really gone farther and farther and farther over the line as far as common decency and whatnot.

Overly sexual stuff, as well.

Back in the day it was fun to watch with the whole family and really get into it, and whatnot. The more mature aspects of it just sort of ruined it for me, and plus it went just overboard with the stupidity and ignorant behavior of the wrestlers.

You can be disliked as a wrestler without trying to appeal to the "Maxim Magazine" type crowd of ignorant sexist neanderthals.

And yes, I realize my username REALLY flies in the face of all of what I'm writing, but I'm a gentle pervert, I'll have you know! lol

It really sucks that people can't enjoy the art of Pro Wrestling, without a spotfest/hardcore stipulation anymore. I'm glad WWE went to a more conservative style in terms of matches because that stuff takes away from alot of the memories of a match. I'm not talking about the occasional ladder match/Hell in a Cell/Elimination Chamber/etc. Those are fine, because they rarely happen so we can remember them more. But Steel Cage matches have lost their luster for me because we see one on cable/satellie once every few months for free. I still personally enjoy wrestling as much as ever, because while I am 25 I know it's fake and am ok with that. I respect what they have to go through, because I went to a wrestling school in PA for a week when I was 22..Worst pain I've ever been in my entire life. I respect the shit out of ALL of them, although some work harder then others. I think Spotmonkeys and raunchy booking(I'm looking RIGHT AT YOU Vince Russo) are what killed wrestling in terms of mainstream popularity.

I mean, I'm not like "AWWW YEAH EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE HARDCORE", but it would be nice to see an "extreme rules" match in the WWE nowadays where they actually...do something.

Sad ending...that should had happened years ago. Let's face it, ever since SM was pretty much crippled back in 98 at WrestleMania XIV, he hasn't been the same. Before that, the man was graceful, went all out, non stop, and would give 110% every single night. He could barely do anything in that match against Austin, but he did give everything he could. He took a few years off, bringing back the NWO after Vince bought WCW out etc. He should had stuck with that, just being a manager, announcer, or just gave up because he was never the same wrestler again.
