There's a 720 blu-ray rip around on the net which I resorted to downloading as it's the only way to watch it with English sub-titles.

Picture quality is very reasonable for a 1980 film though colours are quite disappointingly muted, though no doubt keeping with the film's original theatrical look similar to other French films from around that time.
The good news is print damage is virtually absent with the end-credits outro surviving the transfer.
Audio, despite specs, is a clear but soulless mono bounced through 2 channel DTS.

The only English srt file bouncing around the net for any version is a mess, the usual hastily corrected translation from French hard-of-hearing sub-titles, complete with spelling, punctuation errors and left-over "deaf specific" information, the price you pay for piracy I guess!

I'm re-timing and correcting them (which is proving a TIME CONSUMING process) and adding any missing sub-titles to try to create some sort of professional English sub-titled version as no such official version exists.

When it's done, I'll post on here and people can private message me if interested.

It's HARDLY the same as a genuine blu-ray but will at least give fans a chance to watch it properly and legibly in a HD format and the re-encode should be AVCHD friendly.

It's just a shame Gaumont don't feel the need to make ANY English friendly version available ANYWHERE, SD or otherwise!

I'd rather view this film legally with a distributor supervised edition, let's hope my version is only temporary.

I've done around 35 minutes so far as work prohibits me from giving it my full attention and due to all the timing errors and crazy translations it takes around an hour to do/re-check/re-do about five minutes.

Not exactly progress after all these months, I know

For anyone who is interested in French movies, if you have Dish satellite provider, there is TV5 Monde channel available in their French package. The cost is only $10 per month. They show about 20 movies per month. Most are subtitled in English. I watched La Boum, La Boum 2, Welcome to the Sticks, Le Magnificque, Ace of Aces(Belmondo), multiple Jean Gabin and Lino Ventura titles, Pardon Mon Affaire 1 and 2 etc... All with English subttitles. Most films are in Widescreen. PQ is OK. Sorry if this is a little off topic.
