Just blind bought this one from Amazon.UK. Is it as good as Downfall? It got very good reviews.

It was okay. The acting is very good. Do not expect an incredible HD experience, as the picture is pretty average.

I beg to differ! Considering by it's very nature it's quite a drab looking film, I thought the picture quality was very good with lots of detail. The PQ is better than the Downfall Blu-ray (I have both). It's very much a dialogue/character-driven film, so if action's your thing you may be disappointed. Yes the acting is great, especially from Julia Jentsch (Sophie Scholl) and Gestapo interrogator Robert Mohr (played by Alexander Held). Both Sophie Scholl and Downfall are excellent films, but personally I prefer Sophie.

Old post rising from the ashes. Have this BR and have only watched the film once and would definitely recommend that everyone see it. As strongly as I feel about certain topics, I honestly don't know if I would have had the courage to stand for what she did.

Agreed. It's a great film. I really wish someone would release The White Rose made in the late 1980's which is another powerful telling of the same story.

I have not heard of that film Aunt Peg. I'll be honest and say that I had never even heard of resistance movements before the movie Valkyrie. I went to the Memorial to the German Resistance last year while in Berlin and I'm really glad that I did. They had a little info about Sophie as well. To be so young and so full of conviction and to not waver in the face of evil

Curious how the new 4K remaster compares to the older Blu-ray.

It was a remarkable story and I was unfamiliar with it. The contrast between Sophie's gentleness, goodness and strength from religious faith and the utter filthiness of N@zi ideology couldn't have been starker. My one complaint was the shrill almost hysterical caricature of the N@zi prosecutor. They were much more cunning creatures than that. We hardly needed caricatures to inform us N@zis were the bad guys. In this regard the BBC film Conspiracy is more effective and I highly recommend it. Also based on transcript. Sadly no HD release as yet.

If you talk about the judge, namely Roland Freisler during the trial then perhaps the actor is closer to the real deal then most people would realize.

Second the recommendation for it, it's a brilliant piece of work that. Branagh, Firth and Tucci are all superb.

Yes others should look for that HD file as well. I grabbed it up a while back. The film is unbelieveably blood-curdling but a very direct way of wrapping your head around the unfathomable. A must see for anyone unaware of the goings-on.

Only a US DVD or a German one which is not English friendly.
A very dark watch but like Sophie Scholl deals with moral choices, regardless of personal consequences.

These are from the newer Kino "4K restoration" Blu-ray:

The Kino release is Region A locked.

When Blu-ray Disc appeared, I made a list of 100 films I had on DVD which I'd like to upgrade.

I now have 98 of them. Conspiracy is one of the two left.

I have it recorded on my SKY Q Box planner.
