Interesting! So I guess the post's round there parts saying standalone's have a better PQ are either whoo-ha, or the placebo effect?

ive seen a PS3 playing one. its far more glitchy and almost makes it look like a video game.

I have the 2nd Gen Sony and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I have a BDP-S300 and my daughter has a PS3 hooked up to the same TV. (56" DLP 1080P) The S300 tends to has a slightly sharper picture, but to be honest, unless you are looking for a difference or could actually play them side by side on the same tv (split screen), the diff is negligable.

Adjusting the TV setting could reverse my decision too, the way I have it set up is for my likeing.

I have a PS3 and a BDPS301(Costco model of S300) and the PQ is almost the same. TV is Samsung HLT6189S.
As long long as you configure the PS3 properly the PQ will be great.

The PS3 is great, but I really do think that a standalone does offer a better picture. Plus less hassles with a standalone. Once profile 2.0 players are released I think a lot of people will be ditching their PS3 or buying a 2.0 player instead. I know I will.

I've got both the BDP-S1 and the PS3 and they are almost indistinguishable with only slight nuances. At times the PS3 actually looks better on some scenes and vice versa...it's strange...lov'em both!

Same here, but there is one major difference. The BDP-S1 displays all levels of black where as the PS3 does not which is somewhat dissapointing but not a HUGE deal.

You must've seen one of the bad players that falls into the .9% of bad PS3's then because I haven't seen any glitches so far as far as playback and I have a BDP-S1 also.

The biggest diffrence of the top PQ players (PS3, pioneer elite, Samsung 1200, Sony 300 & Sony BDP-S1) players is the audio & std dvd play back. So that depend on your set-up & what audio options you want.
The Samsung1200 has the best player Std dvd play back, even compaired to the best std dvd players, but you (I) give on the advanced audio options.

Soooo it boils down too, audio & std dvd play back.

PS3 already had an update that added HDMI full RGB which displays darker blacks. PS3 is set to RGB limited by default. Why? To sell Sony standalones that's why. This can be found in video output settings.

I used a THX optimizing applet that was on one of my DVDs to calibrate my TV, and all I can say is WOW. It's 3x better PQ than default settings.

BTW my Blu-ray playback looks better than most Standalone setups I see at most stores. But it's sad though. I have seen PS3 settups that are not properly calibrated and they don't do it justice, even on a 1080p Bravia TV.

Obviously you have no idea what you are talking about.. I got those two side-by-side on the same 1080p TV and see no obvious difference.
