I bought the Logitech X-540.
Theres this green/orange/black cable that comes with it. The green one is front, orange is middle and black is rear. It comes with a splitter that splits the green in to a red and white jacks. Well, I can use the AV cables that came with the PS3 and plug it in to the red and white jacks from the split green cable. Sound comes through, but I'm just wondering if it's considered 5.1 surround sound? Because the orange and black cables that does mid and rear aren't used? Thanks. |

The red & white cables will only provide 2 channel stereo, and unfortunately the PS3 doesn't have 5.1 analog connections or an adapter for you to connect the orange and black cables even if you had additional splitters.
The X-540 has a "matrix" surround feature which will simulate a 5.1 surround sound field from a 2 channel source (red & white connectors), so you will hear all the speakers but it won't compare to an actual 5.1 setup that uses all the green, black, and orange cables. If you want to get actual 5.1 audio, you'll need to pick up a different 5.1 speaker system that has an optical input, and also an optical cable to connect the PS3 to it. However, these can get a bit pricey so give the matrix feature a try and if you like how it sounds then stick with it. Last edited by red_5ive; 08-18-2007 at 08:41 AM. |

Red_5ive said it.
your logitec only "simultes" 5.1 surround sound. (in other words, not true surround sound, sorry) If you want to make your PS3 real happy, invest into one of these. ![]() |

Pay careful attention to whether the receiver can pass the audio through HDMI. My buddy got the 810, and it was only when we tried to set it up that we found that it passed no audio through its HDMI throughputs. He was so pissed he laid an elephant. Good thing he could return it for the 1000
