India/Bollywood Avatar Blu Ray, Indian Release

Was excited and wanted to buy Aavtar's indain Blu Ray release this morning and was disappointed to know that most of the stores still do not have it on the shelves. Though they have been advertising it heavily in their galaries for last few days

I have it lying on my desk in front of me, as I type this. The BD has been released by Excel in their regular 'FAT' case and is Region 'A & C'.

Let me know how you find the transfer once you watch it. I wanted to preorder from Amazon. But thought my parents could also watch it with hindi audio in case I buy from India. Coz the hindi dubbing on 2012 was bearable and they enjoyed immensly. However I wansnt somehow excited with the PQ of the Indian release and had thus that asked you. I am just about to pick Avatar up from Musicworld, Ansal Plaza. Am still in office. He's asked me to reach the store by 9:30

It's available in Gurgaon. Got it from a shop in Metropolitan Mall called Music Festival. Called Landmark, they said that they'll have it in a few days.

This is one movie which i'm definetly not getting. Yes, it had amazing visuals - woo hoo - but that's not enough to carry a film with an unoriginal story (and talk about boring haha). At least it wasn't as boring as Terminator Salvation.

Excel BD specifications:
Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (Originally shot in 16:9 and also the preferred aspect ratio of 'James Cameron)
Video codec: AVC
Audio Codec:
English - DTS-HD MA 5.1
Hindi - DD 5.1
Tamil - DD 5.1
Telugu - DD 5.1
There are other language audio tracks too, but I have only mentioned the one's relevant to the Indian market.
Region coding: A/C

Both audio and video on this 'Excel' BD is absolutely top notch and I don't think there could be much difference between this and the US 'Region A' BD from Fox. In all likelihood the Excel BD uses the same master as the one used by Fox for the US release. There is one slight confusion though, the running time mentioned for the 'Region A' BD here on this site, is 166 minutes, while the running time of the Excel BD is 161 minutes. Don't know if the Excel release is shorter by 5 minutes or the running time listed here is incorrect.

Excel does usually use the same master,

i have had a couple of excel dvds i bought in india, which I bought again in the states for a region 1 copy for my dvd player,

they were exactly similar, speaking of menus, PQ/AQ, special features,

the only difference was the censor board certificate and the excel intro logo.

I feel when it comes to English films DVDs Excel is the best. Also their DVDs of Dor and Parineeta are mind blowing PQ. If anyone of you have these 2 then check it on your HD TVs.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie on blu ray after watching it in 3D a few weeks back. 16:9 has added advantage of using the complete active area of the projection. A friend visited with his family and was amazed to the see the entire set effects. He could never imagine one could have such immersive movie watching experience at home.

Excel had also released 'Parineeta' on a 'Special', limited edition, DVD which also had a DTS audio track, that in my opinion is by far the best DVD of an Indian film ever. This is after including, releases such as Lagaan, Mission Kashmir & Saawariya by Sony. Unfortunately for me, not only is this one of my favorite movies, but my copy of the DVD just dissapeared from my house. Either that or someone borrowed it and did not remember to return it. The worst part is I cannot find it in any store. If anyone ever comes across it, please let me know. For, I seriously doubt that 'Parineeta' will be released on Blu-ray any time soon, if ever, that is.

Have you seen the Excel limited edition, DVD of 'Parineeta'? Believe me none of the titles listed by you, are as good as that.

AVATAR hits number one in 2 days of sale in most of the retail stores. Broken records internationally and in India

Presales for "Avatar," particularly on Blu-ray, are at a "very, very high level," Cameron said. In fact, more than 60% of the pre-orders for "Avatar" have been for the pricier Blu-ray title, Cameron has told the media -- far higher than the usual 20% for DVD titles.
"The wider public has made the decision that they want the premium experience," Cameron said.
"The sky's the limit with this film," Dunn said. "The economy is starting to stabilize. The DVD and Blu-ray business is stabilizing. We're hoping 'Avatar' will help turn the corner. It's got the momentum behind it to reignite the industry
And to end this on a high note is, 'Avatar' sets first-day Blu-ray & DVD sales record:

Excel Home Video, made the following statement, in response to my query regarding any differences between their BD and the US Region A BD.

Quote:
Sanjay:
Although, I personally found the quality of the Excel Blu-ray of Avatar to be excellent, many have asked the question regarding the difference in quality between the Excel BD and the Fox BD released in the US. There is speculation whether the same masters have been used for both releases or have you used your own maste...rs? Specially since the running time mentioned for the Fox BD is 166 minutes whereas the Excel BD has a running time of 161 minutes. Could you please comment on this.

Excel Home Video:
There is no difference whatsoever, except the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dub languages in 5.1 Dolby Digital in addition to English in HD Master in the India BD.

Aah don't have that one. Now your statement is making me search for it in Mumbai stores. I will pick one for you if I find more

Killer!

But wouldn't their introduction of extra language tracks impact the blu-ray?
