Red face We need more classics on Blu-ray!

We really need more classic films on Blu-ray with stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo, Judy Garland, Joan Crawford and Audrey Hepburn. Blu-ray is perfect for classics, just look at "Gone With The Wind", "Casablanca" and "The Wizard Of Oz". They look amazing!

I can't wait to see more classics in high definition! Who's with me?

I would totally love to see more classics on blu-ray.

Part of the reason we don't see more of them is partly because they need MAJOR restoration work in order to look good in high-def - without a good restoration, the fact that they're on high-def will only serve to augment any scratches, dirt, flaws, etc.

That kind of restoration is very expensive, so the studios are hesitant to do this for anything but the major "jewels" of their libraries - Disney and WB are good examples, they do relatively few of them but try to do a very good restoration.

Default I agree.

You're right! I just hope there will be even more classics out when Blu-ray is the number one format (if that ever happens).

I'm really looking forward to the upcoming releases of "Psycho", "King Kong" and "A Star Is Born".

I would love a MGM musical collection too.

Totally agree. All we can do is support the major film restoration whenever it happens and follow through with a personal commitment to purchase these treasures as soon as they become available. Our support will ensure further investment by the restoration experts at the major studios. And Blu-Ray may be our last great chance to achieve that purpose: saving our film heritage. I'd prefer they take their time and restore movies with attention to detail and care rather than rush projects through. Catalogue classic releases done badly rarely get a second chance on Blu-Ray. Think positive, and be patient. Our support matters; encourage your friends and family as well.

I, for one, am surprised Lawrence of Arabia hasn't been released as BD. I thought it was extensively restored a few years ago...

But OP is right - we definitely need more classics!

Any classics with William Powell, Cary Grant, Bogart, Cagney, E.G. Robinson, Robert Taylor, Spencer Tracy, Jimmy Stewart, Duke Wayne, Robert Montgomery, Carol Lombard, Irene Dunn, Bette Davis, Marx Brothers, Buster Keaton, Laurel & Hardy... just to name a few -- lol.

Heck I'd even like to see the wacky Don Knotts movies on blue (not sure if they qualify as classics though)!

Hopefully The Big Sleep follows.

Also I'd like to see some restores and releases of some early hitchcock film. Also His Girl Friday and the philadelphia story.

I have purchased most of the classic titles that have been released on Blu-Ray and will continue to do so. There are many of us who are old enough to have an appreciation for films made during the golden age of Hollywood (what I consider to be the twenty-five year period from 1939 to 1964.)

How about The Ten Commandents, Lawrence of Arabia, Birdman of Alcatraz,
Cleopatra, Giant, Shane, High Noon, West Side Story, Marty, just to name a few.
