Default Samsung LN46C630 LCD Receiver Thread

I am heavily debating picking up a new TV, and this model has caught my eye. At it's price point (under $1000) I am very impressed after doing a few shootouts at local stores.

Just curious, does anyone have any experience with this model? Any reviews, comments, etc?

Thanks for any help, advice, or feedback you may provide!

My next door neighbor who is a good friend of mine bought one of these tvs for $1,708 this past Monday but his tv is the 55" model. I helped him set it up and dailed in some settings similar to my 950's. He is very happy with his purchase and I must say that the picture it produces really impressed me. The only slight negative are the blacks which are not as dark as I wished but I think that is due to the fact that it is a CCFL LCD HDTV. He noticed this as well but it is not a deal breaker for him because of the price he paid which included a 2 year extended warranty. I will try to take some photos of his tv in action and will post them onto my gallery within the next 3-4 days.

Thank you very much, Spyder-Dan! I appreciate your response.

The 55 caught my eye as well but I think the 46 is better suited for my smaller than average room.

I have also been looking at the LN46C650 which is basically the 630 except instead of the matte finish, it is a gloss finish. It does reflect more light, but also allows more light to pass out of the screen itself. I may pull the trigger in the next week or so, just trying to tie up some final choices.

Out of curiosity, does your neighbor 'game' at all? One of the things that has been holding me back a little bit is I have heard that these new 2010 LCD models by Samsung have terrible input lag, 55+ ms, even in game mode! Just curious if you had any feedback if he has found this to be a problem or not.

Thanks again for your response!

Aaron, my neighbor is a gamer. His Blu-ray player is a PS3 and that night the first thing he popped in was a game called Dante's Infernal I think (sorry if I got the name wrong but I am not a gamer). So I immediately asked him if it felt odd due to any lag and he said, "dude the control is effing sweet". I gathered from that comment that gaming is pretty good on that model. I should add that when he was playing that game, the tv was set to "movie" mode since I had just changed the factory settings to mimic my 950's. I will be going over on Sunday and I will ask him more questions and hopefully I will have better information pertaining to gaming lag, picture quality and overall satisfaction. I will try to get him to become a member of this forum.

Thanks for your help and assistance Spyder-Dan!

I ended up pulling the trigger this weekend, and decided to go with the LN46C670 (same as LN46C650) but Best Buy's version. The 650/670 has the gloss finish instead of the matte finish on the screen. It looks gorgeous.

I'll try and post some pics in the next week or so, but it is a fantastic LCD. I am more than happy with it so far. It is such an enormous upgrade from my older LCD.

I watched 2 BD's on it last night and am in love.

I am the owner of the 55 inch Mr. SpyderDan speaks of. I must say that the 46 inch looked just as vibrant as the 55, so you made a good choice. Just like you, I was "in love". I was joking to my friends that the beast was like an annoying girlfriend by demanding so much of my attention

After watching the screen for a week, the only complaint I would have is the slight darkening around the edges due to it being a CCFL. Its almost not noticeable, but I can't help but notice with my eye for details. But just like SPyderDan said, it doesn't make it a deal breaker for the price I paid. It is still absolutely stunning. If I ever purchase a new LED LCD, I will still proudly display this one in another room. I am very happy with it.

Hey Fuelgore!

Thanks for your reply as well

I am very happy to hear you are enjoying your 55 so much, I certainly know how you feel. Hahaha @ 'your annoying girlfriend' comment. Totally know the feeling.

I feel the same way, overall for the price I paid for the 46 ($999) I am still quite stunned. I have not noticed any darkening on the edges as of yet with anything I have watched, but I am still in the process of calibrating and adjusting settings, so I haven't quite dialed in all of my settings as of yet.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your new 'baby' and welcome to the forum! If you ever have questions about the forum or need help with anything, feel free to send me a PM!

Just wanted to chime in here, since I've been the owner of an LN46C630 for a couple weeks now. Actually, to be accurate, 2 of them. The first had an AA02 panel and ended up being pretty unsatisfying. First, something was misaligned in the HDMI 1 input, so none of my cables would plug into it. Secondly, although the picture quality was fantastic, 4-5" on the left side of the screen had a pretty significant band of backlight bleed that caused colors to wash out badly and exacerbated off-angle viewing badness. After putting a couple dozen hours on the TV the problem didn't appear to be changing at all. So, last night, back it went to the store for an exchange.

In its place, I had them find one in the back room with an SQ01 panel. Apart from some minor flashlighting in the lower left, the backlight is much more even and the color looks good too. I'll work to dial it in over the next couple days and maybe post some pics and settings.

Hey kompressor,

I ended up picking up the LN46C670 as mentioned above, mine is the SQ01 panel (was the first one I bought) and I noticed the same, very minor, flashlighting in the lower left as well. I would definitely agree that the backlight is very even and the color looks great as well. The flashlighting issue is very very minor to me, and does not appear often. In fact, when posed to some my fellow tech friends (and obviously my GF as well) none even noticed it until I mentioned it. It is in fact so insignificant to me, that is does not bother me at all as most times I really have to try to look for it to see it. Overall, I have been extremely happy with the model, it has grown on me even more after having it for a few weeks now. Congratulations on your new LCD's!

You are very welcome.

You won't regret it! I love mine even more than the day I brought it home. Still to this date, I have had no issues, problems, or concerns. It looks beautiful and has really added to my BD enjoyment!

Any TV on the market can have problems...Samsung is no exception.
I own 3 Samsung TVs and I've had 0 issues though. Go for the 40C630 if that's cought your eye...its a solid TV.

Just got this tv last week. I was switching through channels and there was no sound and all I could hear was clicking noises. It seems like it does this when the tv has been off for a long time. every channel takes a while for the sound to come on and theres like a ticking noise before the sound comes back.
