Default 4D Graphics and the PS3

http://www.ddj.com/hpc-high-performa...ting/201800372

That said, programming the PS3's eight Synergistic Processing Units (SPUs) can be quite challenging from time to time, but there is definitely a lot to gain from the architecture, and ProFX on PS3 should run impressively fast. (We should get confirmation on that by the end of the year or so

A very cool side effect of the PS3's architecture is that ProFX should be able to continuously stream textures -- using one or two SPUs to compute the textures to be given to the GPU to be displayed, that's a huge bonus for adding rich content to games without having to stream that content from the BluRay or overloading the sole GPU of the machine.

You should see more graphically impressive games than ever with that kind of combination.

I've watched the demos and it's just simply...amazing! With graphics like this and a TV tuner, probably not until 2009 for the US, the PS3 is right behind sex on my top 5 list

I bet someone's already making a PlayStation Store downloadable game using tech like this, if not a full-blown game yet.

This is what "crazy" Ken was talking about .. and here we now have a developer saying "damn those SPU's" are ideal for this kind of stuff

Solid Snake's Camo in MGS4 is also 4D (Procedural rendering).

Metal Gear Mark 2, in which you see Otacon in the screen, that is also 4D. Otocan is not CG in that image, but he is rendered real-time.

The game Africa and PSN home will also use 4D.

Default 4D Graphics: A Reality Only For Playstation 3

I know I've seen a 4D thread somewhere before, but I couldn't find it. If a mod could combine the two, that'd be great. Either way, here's a great article:

Apologies if this was posted in the first thread.
