Red face How many times have you bought the same movie titles?

How many times have you rebought the same movie titles? Probably more than you think. Fortunately, I only had 7 VHS movies to my name in the 16+ years I owned a VHS. (Talk about picky.) 2 of those were gifts. There were some other odd ball videos that will never see DVD, let alone High Def anything. Those will never be purchased again.

So, I end up buying those 7 titles on DVD. In time, I'll buy them on blu-ray. Essentially, buying the same movie 3 times.

Case in point, Forbidden Planet. How can any sci-fi fan NOT love this 1956 classic? I believe I owned the VHS in full screen. Not the theatrical experience you want, but you had it. Then I bought it on DVD. Still not great, but now it was widescreen. WOO HOO. Then I bought the 50th Anniversary tin case. Movie was cleaned up and I think the sound improved. So I ALREADY bought this thing 3 times and blu-ray will be a 4th, if that happens.

The nice thing about this MGM film is the copyright is expired. It DOES copy over to VHS via a dual player. Same as Metropolis. Not that anyone wants that anymore.

Usually if I liked a movie enough, I would always upgrade whenever a new format would come out. VHS, Laserdisc, VCD (a few titles), DVD and now BD.

My most purchased title is The Wizard Of Oz:
VHS, standard Laserdisc version, $100 Laserdisc box-set, standard dvd (with German language track), Special Edition DVD (same content as $100 LD set), and now the fantastic restored version.

All of my Disney VHS and Laserdiscs (some expensive japanese imports: $250 Cinderella, $80 Bambi) have been replaced by DVD(s). I also still have my original Star Wars on Laserdisc and the first DVD box-set. I have all 3 DVD versions of The Exorcist.

There hasn't been too many upgrades from DVD to BD yet: Wild Things, Final Fantasy, Purple Rain, Cruel Intentions, The Fifth Element, Superman Returns (replaced my DVD once I found the BD on sale).

Err... not too many times. Let me think...from VHS to DVD I repurchased The Indian Jones trilogy, the Star Wars trilogy, the Matrix, Total Recall, Terminator 1 and 2, True Lies, and maybe Jackie Brown. That's about it

From DVD to BD I've repurchased American Psycho, Casino Royale, Terminator 1 and 2 (Sweet, from VHS to BD), The Transporter, Layer Cake, and Reservoir Dogs.

I suspect I'll end up rebuying a bunch more movies on BD once I've got a little more dough.

i anticipate more re-purchases tho, especially when the good classics come out.

Isn't it mostly about the classics, though? I mean, when I was looking with my brother I was tempted to rebuy Terminator 1 and 2, and he urged me just to buy new titles for now. Having seen them both a few times, I agreed.

If God would turn to them all into blu-ray (including any vhs) I'd ask Him to start with my brother's VHS collection first.

Hahah, this question's right up my alley. I've purchased several copies of the same movie on just DVD alone. LOL

Halloween: Standard version on VHS, a collector's set on VHS (2 tapes), and four different DVD versions (including the poorly re-mastered Divimax edition).

Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn: Standard VHS (stuffed away in a box with the Halloweens),a DVD collector's tin, two different DVD versions, and the Book of the Dead edition (the one that's made out of foul smelling rubber)

Evil Dead: Vhs (no case, though! ), Elite Entertainment edition DVD, Anchor Bay standard edition DVD, and Book of the Dead edition (see above).

Dawn of the Dead: Original Anchor Bay DVD, Anchor Bay Ultimate Edition, and standalone version of "Zombi" (the Dario Argento version of Dawn)

All of the above will be purchased on Blu-ray on October 2nd!!

Army of Darkness: Three versions on DVD - The Director's Cut 2-Disc, the Director's cut 1-Disc, and the standard edition.

The Warriors - Original DVD, Ultimate Director's Cut DVD, and Ultimate Director's Cut Blu-ray

The Fifth Element - Standard DVD, Superbit DVD, Blu-ray Edition, Blu-ray Remastered Edition (because I was too lazy to send back the old one).

Black Hawk Down - Three Disc DVD set, Unrated Extended Edition, and Blu-ray

And there's gotta be a bunch more. As Blu-ray versions come out (as long as they have the same or better supplements) I'll start to sell off the DVD versions. The few VHS I have laying around are more for collectible/nostalgic purposes, as I no longer own a VCR to watch them with.

This is a good one...T2 once on laser disc, once on DVD, then again when the Ultimate Edition was released and now the Blu-ray edition, I'll probably buy the Ltd Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray when it comes out as a remaster edition as well....

Wings of Honneamise

Japanese VHS, Manga Entertainment VHS, Manga Entertainment LD, Manga Entertainment DVD, Japanese THX remaster DVD, and in another week or so, Bandai Visual THX remaster Blu-Ray and DVD double pack

SO that's 2 tapes, an LD, 3 dvds and a Blu-Ray
