Question OK, Paramount is gone! Get over it & let's plot strategies!

OK, Blu Ray Brothers, Paramount folded, like a pair of deuces at the Poker table, so lets move on. Now we must start to plan on how were going to counterattack the full court press by the HD DVD zealots in every forum. We need to become stormtroopers and take them on with logic and zeal! We need to start making a list of what is good about our format and what is bad about theirs. We need to come to a conclusion on what we have to say and spread it everywhere, taking on all the liars and bullshitters who want to spread their garbage around.

Why do this? New adopters read those sites. Studio's read these sites. Retailers read these sites. We have to get our message out and with a lot of zeal and truth. I take these *******s on every chance I get and it get's bitter. I can't change their minds but I can influence others who might be looking for some direction on which way to go. I need your input. Here is what I believe are the solid selling points that I use to deflect the other sides zealots and what I sell as positives for Blu Ray.

What's good about Blu Ray:

50GB disks that allow lossless audio
A majority of Hollywood Studio's on board
A choice of many Standalone receivers to purchase
More Blu Ray capable machines with PS3's on the market
2 - 1 software sales advantage
Better scratch protection

The Disadvantages of HD DVD:

Combo Disks that cost more
One single company making their platform
Poor quality disks from Universal
XBOX 360's poor quality and need for repairs often
30 GB Disks that compress audio and video too much
Microsoft is a poor corporate partner

Am I missing anything? Please add and give me some more input. Time to raise the Black Flag and go on the offensive!

your kinda late. i havent seen a thread about paramount in a while now...

i honestly dont care. ...at all.

nothing from paramount i really want to see. Transformers... thats it.
as long as lionsgate doesnt leave, im good...
unless lionsgate turns out to be like, a part of paramount or somthing. i honestly have no idea how anything works. but as long as i can see "War" in Blu - Im good.

wouldnt mind "The One" either.

Also, they've done their job as mine testers--
They took the bribe, it hit the papers, and we're seeing the ripples at the studios.

We know they've got 18 months to change their minds, and as we've seen with Warner, a lot can happen at other studios in 18 weeks, never mind months.
Pass over the shortrun, and keep your mind on the longrun.

The problem is, Warner may be waivering. We need to keep our numbers up and there is only two ways to keep them up, with the defection of Paramount.

One: Buy more software.

Two: Bring more Blu Ray supporters into the game.

Without proper education, we cannot get the recruits that we need to fight off all of the HD DVD ringmasters. They are on a full court press, on many of the other sites and we need to nuetralize them and make them look more stupid than they already are. To do so, we need to educate and fight with true facts.

It is a good startegy, but we need to bring the undecided to the Blu Ray column, to make it work. We must keep our 2 - 1 software advantage and keep bringing in more recruits to help us keep it there or increase it. We cannot let Warner off the hook that easy, by making it appear that we're losing market share. All BD supporters need to buy right now and send a message!

IMO if we win the week of august 28th with not a single new release on Blu-ray, then HDDVD format is done for.

They (HDDVD) have:

Blades of Glory (Paramount)
Dawn of the Dead (2004) (Universal)
Heroes: Season One (Universal)
The Hurricane (2000) (Universal)
Notting Hill (Universal)

Blu-ray has:

Nada

I am optimistic, we'll still win the week. I'll go and buy something just to help!

I know what your talking about It drives me when people say they are the same. As far as paramount goes they just screwed themselves out of a lot of business. With my friends and family, and that is a lot of people I am the go to guy for movies and advice on hometheatre. I tell everyone stay away from hd dvd and they have I tell them to stop buying dvds cause hidef is coming and they have done that too. Right now I am telling everyone to boycott paramount, universal dreamworks and stay away (farway) from toshiba. All you can do is try your best to spread the word and thats what I'm doing.

I totally agree! But I see another major announcement coming soon that will score more points for the big BLU.

Keep buying movies. Money talks and I'll bet Paramount will be regreting their decision around January after the christmas season sales figures are in.

We've done our part. We played the gig but one of the managers stole the profits and took off. At this point, it's up to Sony and the BDA to throw in some more money.

Industry analyst still predicts Blu-ray win in format war
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/10813.cfm
"Bottoms broke down studio market share within Blu-ray-exclusive studios, showing that Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment commands a 14% piece; 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, 16%; Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, 18%; MGM Home Entertainment, 3%; and Lionsgate, 7%.

The HD DVD-only side accounts for 23% of the market, including 10% from Universal Studios Home Entertainment share and 13% from Paramount Home Entertainment. Warner Home Video, producing in both HD DVD and Blu-ray, accounts for 19% of the high-def market. "

If you want to do something then help end the consumer confusion.
Bottoms said. “I heard from a consumer, ‘I was going to buy an HDTV screen, but now I’m going to buy a Blu-ray screen."

I think Paramount might actually break their contract is up before those 18 months. There is just too much money they are going to be leaving on the table and their shareholders will start putting pressure on them. Between now and early 08 Universal might decide to go neutral since they are receiving alot of pressure from GE & stockholders to become HDM neutral.

Agreed 100%. You could visit DVDTALK for inspiration. Some of the absurd "facts" that are being posted need to be argued, and won!

Why?

Because a lie repeated 100 times is....still a lie!

Did Hitlers propaganda Minister, Goebels say, "If you repeat a lie often enough, it will become a truth, or a fact"? That is what we need to combat when dealing with the HD DVD full court press. It's not about getting the HD DVD people to join us, it's too late. It's the undecided, the Studio's and the retailers who need to know truth, not the propaganda that permeates places like AVS and HD Digest. We have a 2 - 1 advantage in sales, but it seems like they have a 2 -1 advantage in debaters and liars. We have to get the news out! We can't let others do the talking for us.

I don't think Paramount really cares that they just lost 2/3rds of all their Hi Def Media sales. They just banked $150million and that is way more than they would make on selling BDs. One thing is certain. Transformers probably would have beat the crap out of 300 in total sales of discs, but now that is not possible. The might outsell total HD DVDs, but will never reach the amount of BDs sold for 300. I don't think Warner will waver. BD on 300 has almost outsold the HD DVD 3:1. It would be stupid to think that Paramount defecting is really going to change anything in the amount of HD DVDs sold, it will slightly lower the amount of BDs sold, but with Fox back in there and the other smaller studios about to start, I think things will go a little more in BDs favor than it was in the past. Starz/Anchor bay is about ready to release in October and so is Fox. That is slightly more than a month away! Hopefully Weinstein will be releasing the Grindhouse movies on BD only, just to piss off the HD DVD people.
