I guess I should start this with my current set up. I have
Sony BDP-S1 360 Elite xbox motorolla DCT6416 III Cable box Sony STR-DG800 (plan on upgrading to the new Yamaha rx-v3800) reciever Sony scd-ce595 SACD Player Sony KDS60A2000 sxrd tv Infinity SW-12 Subwoofer I also have a vcr (which i don't use) and a fan all hooked up to my power supply (just the best place for it in the room and not many outlets) My question is this Currently I have this all in a crapy surge protector one of the cheap monster cable ones (talking like $15 cheap), I have been debating between the higher end ones such as the HTS-5100 or the HTPS-7000. I would like something worth while. I have 10 items to plug in so I can get by with the 5100 but the 7000 has two more outlets. Has anyone compared these two models, I want to know if there is a noticable difference between the two? |

Unplug that fan, plug it in a diffrent outlet.
You need a Back-UPS for your tv, I've got a APC hooked-up cost was $50 http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=21 The HTPS-7000 is not needed for your set-up, it more made for 'real' movie theaters. |

Also there is no where else in the room to plug the fan in hence the reason it is hooked u there. |

I noticed a major differenct because I had so much crap of that circuit that it would draw too much and make my tv and speakers "pop" once in awhile. Every since I hooked up the Panamax I only had the "pop" once and it was during a rolling brown out. Also if lighting strikes I am covered through Panamax.

Surge suppression will help with small spikes but it will not clean the power of noise that will impact audio and video quality or prevent brownouts or power outages that could be damaging to your equipment. There's a lot of religion when talking about these components and you can drop a ton of coin into the right ones. I use the Panamax 1500-UPS and the Panamax 5500-EX mainly because it has the features I need and is at the price point I can afford. The 5500-EX allegedly regenerates the power and as a result takes a lot more power in that it outputs.
With all that said, find a conditioner that fits your budget. You will immediately notice the difference, especially in the audio. Fan = oscillating copper coil = EMI = bad. Lose the fan. Last edited by CAB; 08-26-2007 at 09:49 PM. |

Monster, as of other companies, will not honor their warranty if you get get 'it' from an None autherized dealer. My HTS 5000mkII had a problem after 5 months of buying it, but since I got it from a autherized dealer Moster replaced it for free |

i also have a panamax 5300. as far as the advantages (over a basic surge protector) they are many. a surge protector does just that, it gives some measure of protection based on the equiptment pluged in and the protectors joules rating against a breif surge of power. a power conditioner does that and much more. the flow of power in your home is effected by everything in that home that runs on it. you may notice the "pull down" or dimming of lights when your heater or air conditioner comes on. their is a great deal of noise and interfierence picked up and then transmitted through your system effecting both picture and audio quality. conditioners filter this noise for better picture and sound. a good conditioner also stores reserve energy that is used by your system during movie scenes that draw way more power then the power cable alone can move thru. this again improves audio and video quality. and finally good filtered power can dramatically increase the life of your investment. on ebay a few weeks back they were moving panamax 5300s for under $150.00 (reg. $350+).

I appreciate everyones input on this it is a great help. Still not quite sure what I will get may have to research the Panamax 5300 I like the 11 input idea just incase I expand I will run an extension cord today for the fan that will put it on a different breaker. Did not realize the affect it had.
