_________

LOST: season 1

the GF and i just finished the first season of LOST about an hour or so ago. and while i have watched season 1 from start to finish about 8 times now (see my addictive behavior here? ), this was her first time watching it.

i'm a firm believer that the series feels like two different shows (season 1-3, and then 4-6) and season 1 is the "slowest" of the seasons of course, because of all the character development that needs to be done.

sure, some on-island stories are little slow or lack luster (Sawyer chasing a boar) while the off-island flashbacks are where the meat of some episodes is. and of course, this can be frustrating with some vastly interesting mysteries lurking about. i remember my first time through i was thinking "dammit just get back to the
[Show spoiler]polar bears!
the
[Show spoiler]noise in the jungle!
and the damn
[Show spoiler]hatch!"
which is why i believe LOST is best watched on blu-ray. no need for commercials, breaks or in between season down time. so having all 24 episodes here at once is great and that anger towards slower moments subsides because the waiting is less substantial.

of course, which such a large cast, some characters get more screen time than others and some characters will simply be unliked. the two characters that no one really seemed to like in season 1 (at least for the majority of it) are
[Show spoiler]Shannon and Boone
, and while they do get to do more in the season as it goes on, people will always have favorites and hate seeing the people they don't like. but i don't think LOST ever gave me a character i would not tolerate and did not want to watch their particular story fold out.

one thing i think later seasons don't have as much of is the tense character development scenes. the few brief moments we have of Jack and Locke fighting with their different personalities is incredibly tense and i loved it. some of the later episodes of season 1 have a ton of these moments with a lot of different characters and you really feel a sense of distrust and suspicion. the slower pace works well here and i understand everything the writers did. the mysteries they give us are spread out well throughout the season, although the middle of season 1 felt like they strayed away from anything on-island for a tad too long as we met the cast.

the characters? fantastic.
the score? untouchable in terms of greatness.
the acting? terrific. its a real treat for fans of the show to go back and see where some of our favorite characters started out and how they were and how "simple" LOST was when Flight 815 crashed.

LOST was instantly my favorite show of all time after just the pilot episode, and that never changed throughout all six seasons. i used to say i "disliked" season 1 the most because it is slower and more character based, but it still gets a 5/5 because it's better than every other show i've seen (and yes i've seen The Sopranos, Dexter, Fringe, The X-Files, Mad Men and Deadwood ) and this fantastic first season always reignites my fascination with the show.

cannot wait till the complete series on blu comes out on the 24th!

PQ: 4.5/5
AQ: 5/5

5/5

I vividly remember when the pilot ended, I thought, "Oh my, there has never been anything like this "

Hook, line and sinker instantly.

Is it C word yet? Or a M word? Too soon to call it? I feel safe that it will be a T word.

I've never seen Lost, I want to start getting the first season through Netflix soon. Are you guys gonna get the complete collection? If I like the show a lot, I might consider it when it's cheaper someday

Absolutely it's all of them. It's much easier to make this determination with television shows than with movies.

Don't feel too bad. I have actually seen Lost and didn't like it at all even though a lot of people say it's practically the best show ever.

Yes. It bored me too much to keep watching. I may not agree with everyone that says the show is so amazing, but it's fine if people think that. I'll take Chuck over Lost any day of the week, but I know I'm in the extreme minority there.

Add Diesel to the list of never having seen Lost before. I don't watch much TV.

Maybe I'll check it out eventually, maybe not.

My parents and I hated the "Lost" pilot episode. Seemed like too many dumb moments.

Then I gave it another try. I think it got better after the first few episodes, and Season 2 totally rocked.

I'm a little less enthused about the later seasons; they seem a little too convoluted to me. But I'm still interested to see how it all turns out.

My parents still hate it.

I dont see how you could not be curious with people throwing Timeless Classic Epic Masterpiece around. I would check it out just to see if all of us were koo-koo or if it really is that good.

There is an episode in season 4 called The Constant. It has more raw emotion, tension, and heavy drama than 90% of all the movies I have seen in my entire life. Yes, its THAT friggin good.

I dont understand that Al. The first episode was
[Show spoiler]pretty much just the crash and gathering people up. I cant remember any dumb parts, or parts that were a turnoff. What parts bugged you?

Maybe I'll drop the ", maybe not" part then

I've read people talking about how much they've loved it for a long time now...yet my interest has never once been raised at all.

Maybe if I ever check it out I'll actually like it, maybe not. Who knows.

The only problem with your suggestion is that some of us just dont have all the time for watching long series like LOST.

Add me to the list of never seen LOST as well.
This list is becoming popular.
