We know hddvd announced, hddvd drives in laptops, Sunday Night Football tv ads and a Onkyo upscale player that costs $1,100.00 and 125 movies to be released in Q4 from Universal, Paramount and WB. I would like to see the # of WB's movies out of the 125 releases.

why do i get a sinking feeling every day that the BDA is in shambles after the Paramount announcement.....i really hope we hear something positive these next few days......and by positive i wasnt thinking a WIDENING price gap as we will see now with toshibas 3rd gen being $300 and Sony's being $700....

How, with the PS3 and a 2:1 YTD and 61:39 SI ratio in software do i get the feeling we are not in the drivers seat anymore......

Sorry for my rant, I'm really looking forward to something positive at Cedia

I thought the BDA announcements at IFA were massively better than HD DVD's.

1) Insignia isn't a new player
2) Daewoo is a new player
3) Loewe is a new player
4) Sharp is a new player
5) Funai says Q1/08 - that's another new player
6) Acer
7) Ben-Q

Am I the only one that sees the big picture here?

Nice article, I read that on the Home page already.

They haven't had their press C. yet, have they?

I know, im just frustrated.....as much as HD DVD was out of touch for the last 9 months, they are getting things right now.....dishing dough to secure big time studios, marketing sunday night football, driving down prices.....

Its prolly just happening so fast combined with the lack of BDA news that makes it seem lopsided...im hoping something this week changes that

While NBC (Universal) has football, doesn't Fox and ABC (Disney) also have football?

indeed, thats why as frustrated as i am, im under the impression BDA wont keep idle during the most CRUCIAL holiday of this format wars past and future....this holiday will seal it one way or another...no way we see split formats for 24 months....

the BDA has the ammo, but that doesnt mean theyll use it wisely or in time.

Um, like a whole lot more football.

Edit: The vast majority of games are broadcast by

CBS (Viacom)
ESPN (Disney)
ABC (Disney)

This isn't that complicated:

- Brand name Standalone Blu Ray Player, priced competitively with Toshiba

- No Name Standalone Blu Ray Player, priced competitively with HD DVD equivalent

Get these out by late fall, and things are fine.

This seems so simple, how bad does it look when HD DVD is marketing 200 and 300 dollar players and transformers to half drunk football fans with 300 and the bourne identity when you buy one....not to mention transformers......and the BDA gives us a 3.5 thousand dollar 200 disc changer and a $700 player?.......this is the first time im a bit embarrassed for my blu boys and their strategy....but a lot can change in the week

They should make a BR player 1080p, with Analogs out (like the A20) and sell it around that price..

Remember the S300 is still here, while it might not drop as low as the A2 (wich is only 1080i and don't have Analog out and won't ever output 24fps) it will be reduced..

While I am fully backing Blu-ray, I am a little worried about their ability to deliver this holiday season. I would expect to see a mostly completed format with reasonably cheap players but I don't quite see that. It nice that they are releasing all of these expensive players but I don't think that will do them any good against HD-DVD's more cheaply priced players. I mean a 200 BD changer for $3,500...You can't get people to buy a $700 player and movies.

S300 should be a lot less than the A20 and feature for feature the S300 is bare bones.

not out or even rumored yet.

And HD DVD just announced 4 out the top 5 laptops providers will have HD DVD drives.....sooooo, as much of a BD fan as i am, im not going to sit here and pretend liek nothings wrong....seriously, with the holidays right around the corner if BDA doesnt flex its muscle their announced software will NOT save them.

We all based out software and content constant on the increasing market, promotion and lowering of prices......sure content is key, but publicity and pricing needs to be in line...we arent seeing this yet, until we do, i will be worried.
