Most movies (top sellers) are released with an aspect ratio of 2.40:1, 2:35:1, or 1.85:1. True HD (1080P) TV's have a resolution of 1920 x 1080 which is an aspect ratio of 1.78:1. So instead of enjoying 1080 vertical lines of movie resolution, we're stuck with 800 lines of resolution (2.40:1), 817 lines of resolution (2.35:1), or 1037 lines of resolution (1.85:1) -> plus black borders on the top and bottom to make up the difference... Or the movie can be distorted to fit the screen. Why not HDTV's with 2592 x 1080 or 2538 x 1080 resolution so all the common widescreen films fit appropriately??? Does this not make sense? What's the point of buying a widescreen TV if MOST of the widescreen movies still have borders on the top and bottom?
