Default One slipped through the cracks... *sigh*

So yeah couple and the 2 kids came into the store today. Picked upa 42" 1080p lcd.. and asked for a toshiba hd dvd player. sigh. I mentioned lbu-ray and they said they'd rather not. I asked em why and the kid spoke up "i worked at fry's and believe in HD" The dad was curious tho and asked me why i recommend blu-ray.

I told him about the higher industry support in hardware and studio. Mentioned the higher capacity which over time will definitely come into play. the higher bandwidth etc. Also mentioend that his player will only do 1080i vs 1080p. This is where i realized i was fighting a losing battle. The kid said "I was told that Hd has more room cus they have 29 gigs on each side of the disc if you flip it over". I really wanted to give a wtf whered you hear such bs stuff and then realized that the poor kid is sooo misinformed and thus the parents.. I couldnt reach this family. Ugh. Wanted to seriously smack my head. Not becaue they got one but honestly because they were so misinformed... The kid had on idea what different audio codecs were.. no idea what bandwidth was.. Heck he didnt even know that paramount switched..

So today i sold my first toshiba hd dvd player since ive been in retail.. 3 year.. ughhhhh.

On the flip side sold 2 blu-rays so yay.

Maybe they'll come back and return it after finding it takes a minute to boot up a movie, sometimes discs don't play, POTC won't work in it, etc etc.

Thats the thing that really grates me about all the format war stuff is that people are so mis-informed. If the kid had come in and said to you... I want HD DVD player because I want to watch Transformers yade yada yada... then fair enough. But when the poor kid is basically bloody lied to makes me so angry. If people are so sure HD DVD is the better format then give the kid the FACTS and let him choose for himself and not feed him poor information to promote the cause. I'll be glad when this is all over... and I tell you one thing.. AVS and co.. I'll never forget whats happened.. and I'll never forgive certain individuals over there for what they've done to that site .

Like another user's signature says on another forum, never argue with an idiot, he's just going to bring you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

But really, so another HD DVD player was purchased, not going to tip any scales. Just be happy he's interested in hi def movies.

Wait until Lord of the Rings comes out on a triple-layer hd-dvd and they can't play it in their hd-dud player.

I hear ya, brother. That is why I fight so hard against the HD DVD FUD. Every opportunity to correct these cracker jacks, is an opportunity to inform those who are seeking the best HDM player platform available.

sweet lord no. you are so fired. banished. unseen. forgotten. don't sweat it. $hit happens sometimes. but if i were you i'd carry around a little squirt gun and spray annoying missinformed folks like that kid. just spray them like a cat that scratched the carpet. in fact i might start doing that when i go through the blu/hd section at frys. spray people looking at the hd dvd and say "no, bad consumer, BAD!!" (squirt squirt squirt).

we all know blu-ray is going to win probably within the next year. stupid kid just pissed away his money. not only on hd dvd, but on the wrong hd dvd player, if all he wanted was 1080i save a ton of money and just get a 1080i tv. no point in having 1080p unless you use blu-ray or one of the expensive hd dvd players.
he obviously didn't know a thing about hd equipment. like a previous poster said, its not like its going to tip the scales are anything. he probably didn't even really listen to you and when he realizes how much of the hd market he missed out on he'll be back and crying.

well personally yeah def more blu-ray's. altho prolly 50% were standalones and 50% ps3's on my personal sales. When i see parents doing the big purchases i always present the ps3 as a option *finding out if they have kids and what age* also if their "geeky" and the network capabilities etc.
