Default Tranformers on PS3

I just had a crazy thought. There is widespread rumor that Sony is going to start DL content on the PS3. Now given that 95% of the blu-ray players out there are PS3s could we still get Transformers in HD via DL. Heres the logic. Paramount signs a contract that basically says 150 million dollars for no blu-rays, however nothing about hd content via download on the ps3 is ever mentioned in the contract, now they know this DL stuff is going to happen for ps3 and that the vast majority of ppl who were going to by transformers on blu-ray were ps3 owners. so they basically outsmart the hd dvd group by not voiding the contract, taking the 150 million dollars, and simply reaping in the hd rewards of all the ps3 owners out there with hd dl content and not blu-ray, and we still get transformers in hd! then in 18 months the blu-ray is released and they get to double dip.

Now you are getting into a whole different technology.
It may be possible to download an HD version of Tranformers (if that comes out) via a third party company (I don't know if PS3 will have that, but Amazon might).
Playing it your PS3 might be difficult however since they are usually restricted using a DRM format that makes the file only run in certain players (like most songs from iTunes will run on iTunes and iPods, but not in Zunes), unless of course the d/l is DRM-free (yeah right).

SO in theory it may be possible.
HOWEVER, the quality of downloads still do not compete to the quality of discs. Even HD-DVDs have better quality than digital downloads. Also, surround sound will be limited if present at all. Compression will be the big issue, and action scenes will suffer from this the most.

In short, I would not want it in d/l even if it is available. At least not until the d/l technology gets better. For me, discs are the only way to watch HD content!

a lot of people still would like it though. it could be one of those 24 hour things too like xbl, and would tide a lot of us over until tranformers is released on blu-ray in about 17 months.

Currently the PS3 only supports files 4Gb or smaller.

If they are going to make it available for DL in a file under 4GB ,... it's not going to be worth downloading.

I'll have no problem waiting the 18 months if I ever buy that film. I skipped it in the theaters and there's plenty of stuff coming from Fox, Sony and WB to keep my pockets empty.

i didn't even see the movie in theaters and i wouldn't dl it, and a blu-ray purchase is still up in the air, i'm just trying to present a theory on paramount's "logic".

I don't know, if you really want to see it in High Def, get cable/sat and just watch it on a Hi Def movie channel. Seriously.
TNT has been showing some very good things in HD, and there are tons more channels planned to come out next year for all services. I know there are already HBO and Showtime HD channels as well, so just wait till then. You might be lucky enough to record it with an HD-DVR and then you can watch it whenever you want.
