"We pushed the envelope with our sophisticated BD-J Menus, 37Mbps Video Encodes, and DTS-HD Master Audio," said Casey. "This caused problems for both the Professional Authoring and Compilation Tools as well as Consumer BD Players. Firmware updates and fixes had to be implemented to bring the tools and the players up to spec. We pretty much tripped up every tool and player showing their flaws and weaknesses with this release."

This was a mistake that was clearly made by Sony and hopefully will be rectified sooner rather than later. Hate to admit it, but this is obviously where HD-DVD has a 1-up on Blu. This won't last long though.

Blood Diamond was scheduled 1 month later due to more complex authoring. That time it was the HD-DVD version that was released later. I think it's good that all the CE-companies Sony, Samsung, Pioneer, Panasonic, LG and all others will have a disc that really squeeze the most out of the players and that they fix it. Toshiba is just one CE-company but it still took 1 month extra to implement the extra features on the HD-DVD disc.

That actually sounds like great news to me. They're pushing the envelope and the result is an ~1 month delay. This is glass half full as far as I'm concerned.

I think he's right to not delay the HD DVD release because of issues with the BD one. But, I don't see this as being a negative for Blu-ray. He's working on the edge with it, rather than simply pumping out the mimimal support that is the HD DVD release.

I hope everyone supports this release.

Great, I pre-ordered this one today... now I have to wait a month. Well, better a delay than to get a botched version.

E-Dogg

there have been plenty of HD DVDs that had been delayed because what they did could not work and many that had issues once out. There is nothing bad in his statement (or even negative in my view) The guy pushed BD to the extreme and on some players a small update is needed, it is natural early on and with many players.

This is one disk I am looking forward to own

^^ I agree. No sense in letting our CE folks get complacent. Richard Casey seems to be bringing in a kick-a$s, cutting-edge product, which seems to have the software engineers involved in authoring firmware updates. The firmware updates will allow future products become even better.

I actually already saw a copy of this at my local Fry's. Wonder if it's worth getting. I saw it was only 5.0 surround, and thought, meh, maybe i'll pass on it.

In our opinion, and in the opinion of many highly respected audio engineers, this is the proper way to mix surround music for playback on a Home Theater System. Some engineers, like Alan Parsons, insist on doing 4.0....at least we still give a center channel...!

Actually, I did not say anything negative. I just stated the facts. All I know is that because of this release, you will have better performance and fewer issues on both current and future generations of BD Players.

Unfortunately, this is what happens when you ride the bleeding edge of technology... None of these were show stoppers and all of the player manufacturers have issued updates.

Nature's Journey is probably one of the most tested and evaluated releases with the most Quality Control of any BD Disc ever released.

Richard, I just want to thank you guys for spending the time and money on these releases. It's not exactly a profit making venture just yet, and you guys are pushing the envelope on something that's not exactly a mainstream release.

I can attest to the effort placed into CHRONOS when it was found to have issues with the PS3. It is the willingness of companies like Richards's, that by pushing the spec envelope of BD, will make it a better performing format in the future. Discovering these issues now only serves to benefit all companies and hence customers in the long run.

Thanks Richard for being the beta-tester for BD and forcing it to provide the quality experience we know it is capable of.
