Default speaker question.

OK ive decided on the amp.
on the sub

speakers im still up in the air

I listend carefully today to these bookshelves from jbl the the arena venue series and they sounded good to me.

130 per pair.

Or is the fluance set better? Im just a lil cautious about the fluance's due to their lower price compared to justa bout anything else out there.

oh yeah forgot to add anyone got any opinions on them? im trying to stay around 500 for the speakers. if possible.

jbl is is a good solid choice for starters. i used to swear by jbl for years. they are always a good solid construction with decent mids and highs and always great lows.

i think someone put it best in another thread.

whatever sounds best TO YOU is best. doesn't matter what is technically best, what matters is what you think. and i always suggest this site to people who are buying speakers www.shopzilla.com I used it for a lot of my equipement and its always helped me save money. find what you like then look it up there. i usually saved around 30-40% off in store prices. good luck man.

as my sig shows i have jbl speakers, balboa series, and i am satisfied with them.

I totally agree. There's probably a billion posts on what speakers are "best", but what really matters is what sounds best to you. If you audition speakers, I would recommend that you hear them where the setup it's similar to YOUR set up i.e same series/brand of AVR/preprocessor/amplifier setup. If you can't, then be sure that when you buy speakers that the seller has as a 30 day return/audition policy. Therefore you can try them at home and decide for yourself if you want to keep them.

I had JBL speakers for years before I went with a Klipsch setup. JBL makes some good stuff.

or

or

http://www.orbaudio.com/index.asp?Pa...ATS&Category=8

All highly rated and they give 30 day in home trials.

i would do alot of listening at the local B&Ms, find the speakers you like the best (not focusing on the price so much at first) then find the best price from a good dealer on the internet, and see if the local B&M will price match. the mark up on speakers is obscene.

yaeh the jbls i liked were 200 per pair in store but 127 online. but even so 6 of those + a center is away more than a full setup of lets say fluances etc. so its a matter of i know jbl is good and i like em cus i heard em, but fluances get good things said but i cant hear it. which sucks.

P.S im at work so ty to the guy who provided 3 links ill check em when ig et home.

Take your time auditioning speakers. Check on-line reviews also. Go to the B&M stores and concentrate on better stores such as Tweeter as oppossed to places such as Best Buy and Circuit City. Circuit City is a step up from Best Buy however.

Bring your own music in that you are familiar with. Musical speakers will normally translate into excellent home theater speakers.

Look at cabinet construction....do they appear well made?.....make sure they have good binding posts on the back. What are the woofers made out of? Do they have rubber surround which will last longer?

There are many good speakers out there and only you can decide which sounds best to your ears. Don't let someone else tell you what sounds best.

If you can, make sure you can return the speakers if you don't care for them.

Here is a short list of quality manufacturers to look at in no particular order:

Infinity
Paradigm
B&W
Klipsh
Kef
Mirage
Axiom Audio (mail order from Canada only, great speakers chk website)

There are others of course......good luck.

I personally own Thiel CS1.6 front speakers.....an Infinity Center Channel......an Atlantic Technology sub....and Mirage Omnipolar surrounds. I will eventually replace the Infinity with a Thiel to maintain timbre across the front.

bose? did you say bose? (throws up in mouth a little)
check out bic america. I have the h100 sub from them and I read their speakers are pretty damn good too. when you say 2 speakers are you talking just the L and R? do you have a center channel already? a center is very important. if you're getting L, R, and C make sure they are all the same series from the same maker. I heard some nice polks at frys the other day. they were on sale for $299 a piece. but the jbl floorstandings I got they sell for $69 each every couple months.

thats the thing. ive compared jbl to polk to infinity and the bose were better sounding to me than any of those.

but yeah i'd be getting Fronts and center now and rest later.

I dont really have the room for floorstanding but at this point im considering making room. I'd hafta shift around my desk a bit but i think it should work out.

Still my issue is that the jbl's were good. but others sounded better. but some of those others were kinda way outta my college budget lol : (

This is unfair. We aren't supposed to steer people away from poor performing or overpriced products.

no offense to anyone who has KEF. but my biggest personal issue is. While i know there are alot of companies out there that produce really good high frequencies.. *i have a set of old bose that produce amazing highs*

but I want all my speakers to produce a well ranged spectrum of frequencies. Its why i was looking at the JBl arena to begin with. 6.5" midrange. The bose i heard in store produced clearer mids and high's tho.

So yeah the problem is im trying to find a set of speakers that will produce a very big spectrum. and thats the trouble im having with narrowing em down. which one does em all really good. The jbl honestly to me sounded a bit flatter than the others i heard. Better than what i got, but not worth me upgrading to.

I realllly wish there was one store here in atlanta that had like every speaker there. sigh.

EDIT: Am i wrong to think this would be better? or is it just my preference? really im not a huge audiophile but im wanting to learn..

Add Polk Audio, JBL, PSB, Monitor Audio, Castle Acoustics, Proac and if you have boatloads of Money "Wilson Audio"
