Compared to WoW, FFXI is a joke.

I make fun of people who play WoW... or anyone who plays MMPORG for that matter...

reference: South Park, Make Love Not Warcraft

edit: consider anyone who plays these made fun of

I played FFXI for about a year. The game was fun, but extremely time consuming, more-so than other MMORPGs I've played. You can't just login and and play for a half-hour when you have a few extra minutes. There is no soloing in this game except for the very early levels. A well-balanced party is necessary. If you enjoy grinding, then you'll enjoy this game, as that is how most of the time is spent. The scenery, music and character/creature models are fantastic. If you are a fan of the FF series, you'll enjoy the themes incorporated this game. The combat is much slower paced than WoW, which can be good or bad depending on preferences. One mechanic I really enjoyed was the chaining of attacks with other players to create combo effects. It really brought the group/teamwork aspect of the game together.

I loathed WoW since the children started joining. An MMO can be defined by its community and boy, WoW needs some adult only servers or something.

WoW has always been kind of the adolescent of MMO games. Eve Online is far far far better than anything else out there at the moment in my opinion.

I played FFXI for 2 years and did a lot. I agree with Count Zero and the game is VERY time consuming. If you plan on getting to high levels and doing end-game stuff you will have to spend like 5 hours a day (at least) in order to actually do something. I was on Phoenix but havn't been in game for nearly two years now. I did get a lot of good items (Shadow Ring FTW) but I logged nearly 1 year in the game (I normally didn't leave my PC on overnight so that's the time I spent actively playing the game). FFXI forces you to party if you want to get anything done (except for a few jobs) and you need a lot of coordination and timing to do any of the bigger end game stuff.

I say LoL to WoW just because of how easy it is to do shit.

The game has changed alot for some of you that havent played in awhile. there is soloing, if you are into soloing there are jobs just for that, for the most part soloing is for lower levels however, now you can go by yourself at higher levels if you wish. people are right when they say you can just kill some time playing it you are sort of forced to play for long periods if you want to get any where in the game. and as for as the well balanced party, that just isnt the case anymore there are my differant types of party set ups now. but the game is fun, if you have it still in the wrapping then you have 30days of free play so check it out.

There's so many expansions. I'll wait until a complete pack comes out.

I always wanted to be a TaruTaru!
