Angry Why can't I watch Blu-ray on my HD-DVD player?

I have a real nice HD-DVD player that I just dropped close to $500 on and it will not play my BluRay discs. It's my understanding that HD-DVD and BluRay are identical and fully compatible with each other... is my player defective or am I missing something? Plz help!

Oh it doesn't play Blu-rays out of the box, you first have to follow these steps and it will work:

1) unplug your hd-dvd player
2) return it to the store
3) purchase blu-ray player

DONE!

Cyorg, I think you're being too kind to uninvited guests to this site by actually answering their stupid questions. I didn't want to say the "T" word.

You will want to return that HD-DVD player and get a BLU-RAY player instead. I bought my SONY S-300 recently and I love it!!! Get yourself one! It plays all my Blu-ray movies beautifully.

You will need to return your HD DVD player and exchange it for a Blu-ray player and everything will be fine.

Of course, you could exchange the movies (assuming that they are titles you can even get on HD DVD) but that would not be the smart move. Blu-ray is way better quality

Well, you never know. It might have been a serious question. Unlikely, but I didn't want to be rude.

My feelings exactly. Anyone with a question like this is not necessarily in the "T" category

Doesn't logic dictate that if two things are identical, there is in fact only one thing? Have you ever wondered why there are two different formats to begin with? And you really spent $500 before even researching any of this?

1. Return the HD player and get a BluRay Player (or PS3).
2. Spend a week on this site and you will be making much better purchases.

VideoGuy,

Do the following. Insert Blu-Ray disc into your player and press and hold power button for 30 secs. If that fails ,repeat the same step until it works.
