If Sony honestly put in memory upgrades, and it became necessary to buy these expensive upgrades to play the latest games, I will sell my PS3 and all my games for it, and use the money to buy the best top of the line BD player out there. The whole purpose of a console is that you DON'T need to upgrade it every 6 months-2 years. If I'm spending $600 on a console, it better be able to play every game made for it, not just games made in the first 2 years.
Now, upgrading the HDD is something different. There is no game out there that would require anywhere near 60GB to run, so it won't be necessary to upgrade beyond the original if you don't want to. |

What would be nice is the possiblility to upgrade the Blu-ray Drive to a faster more capable one, if possible, in the future.

The thing is, Sony will have to ensure that any changes to the PS3 stay compatible with the existing consoles, so if you buy one on launch or wait three years, you'll still be able to do all the same stuff.
What interests me is the idea that the PS3 may operate as a PC in the sense that you could browse the internet, instant message (video message too), and e-mail using your PS3. That would all be pretty easy to implement, the danger of course is that spam and viruses could start to appear aimed at crippling your console if Sony opened the console too much, as long as they keep it closed and secure it could be a great way to communicate without the need for a traditional PC. I certainly like the idea of HD video messaging using an HD PS3 eyetoy! |
